Re: An update!
I have an Elan IIe and an EF 28-80 3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Both can be automatic but my teacher has banned that feature of my camera and lens lol. He says I will be in big trouble if I ever come to class with it on the AF setting. So for the most part I just try and forget that I have that feature for now. Chlorophyll pills,… -
Re: Do what you have to....
I don't know how... ...but somehow I have survived just fine--so far--without any "L" glass: Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, Canon 28mm f/1.8, Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, and Canon 50mm f/1.4. I don't even find myself wishing for a 24-70 f/2.8L. However, I'm not yet very well covered on the wide or tele ends. On the wide end, there… -
Re: Suggestion for second Basketball Lens???
I shot around 30,000 basketball images last year alone with a 70-200/2.8 in some of the worst gyms you can imagine, so I would take exception to a 2.8 not being fast enough. Most gyms I shoot are 3200ISO f2.8, 1/400th or 1/320th shutter speed. I would rather shoot 3200ISO and get 1/400th than 1600ISO and lose a stop or… -
Re: Seattle (lots o pics)
Thanks for the compliments! That first shot is a result of me wanting to get somewhat of a lomo/holga look. After the standard sharpening, mild contrast and color corrections in the RAW development (about 20 seconds, just to get it to look like what I saw) I took it over to GIMP. It's a little complicated at first, but… -
Re: Anyone Have A Shootsac??
Chuckled at this, so true. Now I've just gotta tell this little story. The first time I geared up with my new shoulder harness rig with the belt pouches etc I felt like such a complete dork. My wife was standing there in the kictchen laughing away and then said quite seriously, "honey. You aren't really going to wear that… -
Re: Semi Newb question on Camcorders.
For indoor venues, and with rapid motion too, you need a camcorder with high sensitivity. The best designs for sensitivity use multiple imaging chips and a dichroic filter to separate the wavelengths of light with little loss. This also tends to land you better features regarding video coring and dynamic range control,… -
Re: Firewire help - Extreme IV Reader can't connect to laptop
Hi, I registered on this site after I found your post because I had the same problem and I thought I could same you some time and money. I purchased an Extreme IV reader and found that the bundled (9-to-6 & 9-to-9) cords weren't compatible with my laptop. My laptop has a 4-pin firewire port. No problem, I purchased a 9-pin… -
Re: B.D. Colen - SmugMug PJ Artist-in-Residence
Wonderful wonderful thread. I just read all 4 pages of it. I eagerly look forward to absorbing more of Mr. Colen's thoughts on just about any subject photographic. I have a question to pose to him and all the dgrinners here interested in street photography. First off, I am fairly new to photography (6 years) . My 1st real… -

Re: Empty space between header and main body
OK - First up HUGE apologies: I just realised there is a typo in my code!! I have a space in the wrong place - the period should be before the 'sm-page-layout-full', not after the previous element! So like this:.sm-page-layout .sm-page-layout-full {margin-top: 25%!important;} Sorry! That would stop it from working. I…
