Re: The boss said go for it! Now I need your help!
OK - I shoot weddings cause I love doing it. Here's my recommendations:* Take a pass on the 5d. I think you would be better served with a 40D * The first lens you need is the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS. This is the workhorse used by me and many others. I probably shoot 95% of my events using this lens. I've read some to say that… -
Re: D800 vs D800E
Maybe. Maybe not. I find that even when I burst shoot, 95% of the time the keeper in the series is my first press of the shutter. The other stuff generally get's tossed out in Lightroom. So by that perspective, shooting 5 or 8 actually makes my job harder. And I still focus manually sometimes. I shot a soccer game last… -
Re: What do you use for packaging Cards?
Hi Dee, Yes I sign the cards digital signature[lower right corner] I only hand sign canvas and on occasion paper when asked which is more often than not. I tried all sorts of paper years ago to see which sold best[for cards only] and to my surprise high gloss won out by 95%. It was shock to me but I learned long ago that… -
Re: Passwords and Hints
Aaagh - typed out reply and lost it (my fault ... grrr). Shorter version. Another Aussie here. I have only password protected galleries of private functions or of school events where I was in my capacity as a teacher at that school. At our school, parents must give permission for photos of their children to be used for… -
Re: Feedback and comments
Great discussion. Thanks again DM for bringing it up again. My feelings have not changed since this POST from July. http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=198949 I've gotten so frustrated with the lack of quality commentary in the gallery, that I rarely will comment on more than a couple images. And few of my comments have… -

Lara and Wes, e-session
I had the honor of shooting my best friend's little sister and her fiance for their engagement shots this past weekend. My first time seeing the location was showing up for the shoot, nothing like keeping fingers crossed for beautiful weather planning a shoot 6 weeks in advance and 400 miles away from home. I'm insanely… -

Re: The Wild Pacfic Coast (Three beaches in Olympic National Park)
Thanks Neil! My biggest tip is to take photos over and over and over and learn from your mistakes and successes. As far as general advice for landscapes, I almost always use a polarizer (95% of the time, brings out the colors, protects the lens from moisture, and can act as a general ND filter to increase exposure times to… -
Re: Help me spend 2K-- to get a camera for my day job
I don't think I would trust someone just because they are listed on Amazon. That they have positive feedback is a good sign, though there's nothing stopping anyone from creating dozens of accounts linked to different free email addresses and going through fake transactions just to give themselves lots of positive feedback.…
