L-brackets shopping experience
As some of you may remember, I recently became a proud owner of a Manfrotto Magfiber NG edition tripod and Acratech Ultimate Ballhead V2. I don't have enough experience with them to write a full review (although I'm getting there and getting a kick out of it:-), but I have some other I wanted to share: the L-bracket (for… -
7D - D300 side by side
I'm not an engineer, I have both cameras and thought this would be helpful for some people, I did my best to make this an accurate comparison. For what it's worth, although I obviously just got the Canon and have some comfort level things that will take time. Here is my opinion on the two. The focusing is still better on… -
Upgrade or new system: Thinking outside the box...
OK, so, I am cross posting this here as well as in Action! as I am hoping to get more replies... What I am interested in is the "unknown unknowns" regarding a system/kit upgrade. Since I am new to video, I know there are things I don't know, what to look for, nor what to ask... And this is where you and your… -
Upgrade or new system: Think outside the box...
OK, so, I am posting this here in Action! as I am looking to get a bias toward a video way of thinking since I am still a video nOOb... What I am interested in is the "unknown unknowns" regarding a system/kit upgrade. Since I am new to video, I know there are things I don't know, what to look for, nor what to ask... And… -

Re: Need to buy a Tripod and Ballhead, help in choosing please
I am sorry I never mentioned, but I have searched and read as many posts that I could. Here and everywhere else. (and yes, I have read John Shaw's Nature Photography book as well as Thom's tripod deal..I have already spent $160 on cheap tripods). The reason I am asking for help even after reading all this, is that I am… -
Re: suddenly in over my head!
with the CFL's last night I was getting 1/160 -1/200 sec exposure f2.8 ISO 800 on my canon 50D. I am planning on using the folders function of my camera to seperate the dogs but I do like the idea of using a hand written sign before each pet to help clarify the animal and owner. Fortunately there are next to no walk in at… -
Re: The Kids
Thanks for sharing these E, I shot a Pentax 35mm for years, but film is film, and as my kids came along and things got busy the SLR gave way to point and shoots and a drop in quality. A few years ago I finally was convinced that digital was preferable to film and bought a DSLR...as you did...to produce better quality shots… -
Re: Group/Ind Portraits SwimTeam - Advice Welcome
Well I tried to get information on how to light up the group. Just couldn't find anything besides multiple flashes, umbrellas, soft boxes etc.. etc... So it was a struggle to figure out how to light up the place. I considered buying a new 580 EX flash and learning how to use two at once but just did not have the money (or… -
Re: A Polite Discussion on the Relative Merits of Film and Digital Photography
Each method of storage has it's pros and cons. I didn't get into the photography until the digital age, but I think digital storage is easier and more full proof. I put my favorite pics on smugmug and it's my offsite backup. I have an external HD that backs up my photo directory every night. I have been around the computer…
