Re: Nikon Portrait Lens
The 85 1.4 is an excellent peice of glass but if $ is an issue the 85 1.8 which can be had for under $400 is considered to be an excellent lens. The Nikon 50mm 1.4D is also an excellent lens and is under $400. The newer Nikon 50mm 1.4G goes for around $500. For a real bargain the Nikon 50mm 1.8 is very good and goes for… -

Re: Need video card for 2 monitor setup
With what you use it for, basically any card will do. Just hit Newegg & narrow your search down to AGP video cards. For under $100 it looks like the best youo'll see is one DVI and one analog connection, but there's a whole truckload of options with that. Heck, I was able to get a PCIe dual-DVI 256MB card for all of $130 6… -
Re: new father noob photographer help!
This looks like camera noise, and there's not much you can do. Not knowing your camera specifically, I don't know if there is any High ISO noise reduction options in the user settings, but here's what can be done with NoiseWare plugin and some unsharp mask (130%, 3.0 radius, 5 [I think] threshhold). Attachment not found.… -
Re: re-numbering of digital downloads via zip file
Ouch! Even though I don't have paying clients breathing down my neck, I feel your angst... I just finished downloading 130 zipped galleries... 17.5 gig... 4066 files... and every one of them needs renaming (to get rid of each "unique identifier") before I can upload or use them elsewhere. I hope your client is… -
Re: Excuses or results? (PJ)
Thanks... As for focus, the 'story' I've tried to present via text and image is on Tina, #130 who is blind. She's the one in the back of the tandem, thus the focal point. Maybe my text needs to be beefed up in the first post to clarify intent or frame the story better???? (This whole PJ thing I'm really trying to work on… -
U.S. Air Force Museum
I thought I'd come away with a bunch of bad photos since this was mainly a trip to take our boy (2.5 yrs old) to the Air Force museum. But I was surprised when I started reviewing the photos :) These are all simple snapshots with only a couple seconds to compose (then chase after son) and no tripod. Shot raw and did minor… -

Re: Basketball . . . getting a little better
Thanks for the postive comment. The town of Summit SD is small and the school reflects this . . . they have 39 kids in 9 - 12. The boys team is decent year in and year out but over the last 6 years the girls' team has a record of something like 130 -12 with 1 state B title. They play a lot of schools out of their league.… -
Re: First Post....Homestead Indy and HSR
more motorsports Fantastic work on the panning. Exposures and colors look good as well I am such a dork:* an IndyCar is about 16' from nose to tail * the field of view of a 200mm lens on a D300 is about 7 degrees So if the car fills the frame, with the nose along one side of the frame and the tail along the other, as it…
