Tamron 200mm-500mm
Hello all, I'm new to dgrin and from what I can see, there are a lot of knowledgeable photographers here! I recently purchased an older Tamron 200-500mm lens with a max aperture of 6.9. I poaid $204 US for it on ebay. This was an impulse buy, and I am curious if anyone has any feedback on it. I am a consistent tripod… -
Re: Advice on gels
I got a Phoxles set. Much cleaner (read: more organized and transportable) method than a mash of 3x10 gel strips. I was disappointed I couldn't find an amber sto-fen for diffusion but made an amazing discovery ... I don't need it! (in my living room) I pasted on the 3100K Phoxel and set the camera WB to "Tungsten". The… -
Re: Star*Explorer Thread
Beta version 204 uploaded Added some niceties, fixed a few glitches. The two big issues left before this becomes a GR (general release) are 1) sorting and 2) configuration (custom settings, some persistence, thumbnail cache management, etc.). AFAICT this version is pretty stable, so please give it whurl and let me know… -
Re: Wall with a lamp
IMO whether it's street or not, it's not really interesting... also all of them have a very slight left-tilt. I don't mind the red one, but maybe if you did 4 of them, each cropped exactly the same (like the red one except straight) but each with a different primary colored wall, and put them together in a 4-square… -
Watch for Giant Koalas
Here in Australia we have a fasination with all things big. On a recent trip (where I picked up the Canon 10-22mm) I captured this image on the return trip from Adelaide to Melbourne. Is it my eyesight or does the image seem to bow in from the center to the edges? if so, what is the best way to correct this (I am using CS2… -
Re: I love the book Skin, by Lee Varis
Yeah, it's a fantastic book. I created an action for his skin smoothing method on page 204 and it's become my #1 skin smoothing method. The extra touch of "emboss" for texture is the icing on the cake. The great thing is the book is about so much more than skin-- there is loads of good stuff on lighting too. That book… -

Re: Gymnastics: Canon vs. Nikon; your choice?
Yeah, right now......being Level 5.....the bar routine is all of about 30 seconds. In that time, there's maybe 4 or 5 potential shots at the most. I'm really struggling with the bars! I hit B&H Photo for the 16GB IV cards at $204 w/ free shipping and a $60 rebate.....and a day later, a dgrinner turned me on to the fact… -

I'm quite disappointed but you learn from mistakes so.... Anyway, the band played in a nice castle up in the mountains near where I live. I…
