Re: Flash
Flash oddness Ok, I had a chance yesterday to do some indoor flash work for a conference. Found some strange things. Was using a 20D, a rented 550EX, and my 28-135 lens, which is a f/3.5-5.6 lens with image stabilization. For example, Program mode worked usually flawlessly in terms of exposure. It selects 1/60 shutter and… -
Re: Wedding help
Fill flash I never used the built-in flash so I don't know. The group shots were outdoors, about 5pm, with the sun to my right. Fill flash was almost required due to shadows, and I borrowed the groom's 420EX for the night. I would take two shots - one with and one without the flash. It also seemed to work better if I used… -
Re: U.S. Air Force Museum
Interesting story (well, to me at least) about the B-1 in the museum. Can't see the sign, but that's an A-model, right? That was the last flying A-model, used as a test airframe before the B-models (the production version) were built. If you will indulge this old crew dog a little trip down memory lane...in my prior life… -
Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
I'm still at 719 kbps download. I get 11MB at other POPs and 7-10MB with myspeed and other benchmark sites. I masked identifying info on line 4: Tracing route to hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.16.48.1 2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.16.245.210 3 32 ms 31 ms 31 ms 10.16.248.53 4 32 ms… -

Re: Auto-ISO?
I use a Nikon D3s currently, used Canon in the past (35+ years). I don't like Canon's implementation of the Auto ISO, on the 7D or 5DII bodies. I have no clue as to their newer offerings. As stated, in manual your stuck with ISO 400 if I remember correctly. They also use the matrix of adjusting ISO based on your aperture… -
Re: New Prime Lens and Possibly a New Camera?
Wow - my Tam 17-50 was the most satisfactory standard zooms I have owned to date; one of my continued frustrations with finding a standard zoom for full frame is that they haven't quite measured up in sharpness. The Tamron wasn't as fast to focus as the best Canon lenses, but it was more than adequate. It wouldn't be my… -
Re: Best place to buy used cameras.
You can pick up a 50mm 1.8 on the private market for not too much - hunt around here, Fred Miranda and Photography on the net - check sellers' feedback and trust your instincts (if it's too good to be true it is, if people seem weird they probably are, and ensure you establish good email comms and maybe even speak on the… -
Does Dancing count?
I have been asked to provide coverage and on site printing for Highland dance provincial championships. The folks that have hired me are great - really helpful and accommodating. I asked to be allowed to have some practice shooting, and so spent a few hours this past weekend at a local competition. It is an interesting… -
25th Anniversary Party
Ok, so if you've read my "Oh Sh** Moment" thread you would have seen that I have an event coming up next weekend. This thread is about the photography aspect of it. Not the "not having a camera to shoot it" aspect :rofl Its in a ball room, 5pm-9pm, 50-60 guests, I'm assuming the room will be "well" lit (meaning the…
