Re: user error or bad lens?..feedback?
You don't say which Canon lens you have in mind for comparison, though I would guess the EF 35mm f/2 from your reference to price. Here are my thoughts on the Canon lenses that one might consider as alternatives to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4: EF 28mm f/1.8 USM: A potentially nice lens completely ruined by the worst CA and purple… -
Re: Soccer season finally begins
Yeah I know with youth sports trying to clear up the clutter is a challenge, its either people or a not so pretty parking lot. But as long as the sunlight it not in a directional part of the day i think you should be able to find something. And I think you will really notice the difference in the results. Something like… -
Re: Aiming high
Thomas, my baptism people stand still, but I sometimes think they put that candle there just to drive me nuts.............I usually have to physically move the people over. I tell them that they need to move so that the candle isn't growing out of their heads, huh! Go two feet, they move one. My husband is worse. Speaking… -
Re: 500mm Lens question
The 500mm mirror reflex lenses get written up in Pop Photo now and again, as an inexpensive solution to long glass. They are a fixed aperature - usually f8. That means that they will not AF as you mentioned. Look through your camera while you press the preview button so that the lens you are viewing through is stopped down… -
Re: Irina S: studio top ten
Nik, I'm outta words - sincerely!!! Some of these are the best glam pics I have ever seen... #7 is my absolute favorite. Superb lighting and color palette (I wish #4 had the skin sheen on the face and chest, like on the face here). The expression and pose took my breath away! The background draping is perfecto! I would… -
Re: 1st "Studio" Shots. CC welcome
A couple observations: Since you have the light power....stop down that aperture. These are all close head shots. Don't worry about the background blurring out when in so tight. You want both eyes in focus. Check your histogram and clearly expose to the right. You'll notice a significant difference in sharpness and clarity… -
Re: The Great Nikon vs. Canon Debate
Ironic. I hope I CAN'T see the stars, that's what makes a good sunrise! Nice layer of clouds, up at high altitude, with a crack at the horizon for the sun to peep through for a couple minutes. I couldn't ask for more! And I sort of scratch my head at Ginger's saying she waits to see "versatility" from Nikon shoters. I… -
Re: Several 5dII questions :)
Thanks Mitchell - yumminess indeed. Also, definitely a learning curve since even though the buttons are in the same places as on the 7d, nothing responds in quite the same way; it's actually a bigger change from 7d>5dII than it was from xsi>7d, so I'm guessing it's just getting used to the different meter and the different… -
Re: More dynamic Range for 7D - iphone is blowing my mind.
Yes, the flow is select 3-10? unedited SOOC Raw files in LR -> Merge them to a single 32 bit HDR Pro in Photoshop, de-ghost if needed there -> PS save as a 32 bit tiff in Lightroom and then edit the 32 bit tiff ( like a RAW file with great dynamic range ) in Lightroom - If selections are then needed/desired for local… -
RESULTS Mini Challenge # 326 - Autumn’s Beauty
Thank you everyone who entered for all the lovely fall photos. @JAG – I really like the contrast of the autumn foliage with the blue sky in the Mirror Lake pano, and the Chugiak Mountain Range photo has me wondering if living with such amazing scenery makes up for the long cold winter. @grandmaR – I went back and forth…
