Re: A hypothetical you've all heard before......
Bud, I felt the need to chime in and defend the Canon XT. I bought one that was new off of FM for $360 with the kit 18-55 lens. I then got the wife to buy me a Canon 70-300 IS USM for $550 from B&H. I have also purchased a battery grip for the XT for $100 (the grip compensates for the camera feeling small in my hand.… -
Re: Need some advice
Ok, let me see if I can add to the great advice you have already received. You can use the crop tool without any criteria typed and use it as a free hand crop. This way you can set the height and width independently to accommodate the subject in your photo. You already know how to set the criteria for a desired aspect… -

EXIF: (for some reason I can read most of the exif on these...) 1) Not Available 2)# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/2000 second = 1/200 second = 0.005 second # Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 63/10 = F6.3 # Original Date/Time = 2008:07:11 08:35:38 # Flash = Flash fired, auto mode, return light detected # Focal Length =… -
Re: help
To start, realize that an entry level camera, like the Canon T1i, is fine for family events and many other sorts of photography, but it will suffer in low-light situations and the autofocus is probably not sufficient for indoor sports and may struggle with some dance situations as well. It's still a pretty good camera for… -
Re: Low light portrait lens?
The "Nifty-Fifty" I am going to swim against the cult of "nifty-fifty" admirers. It is a fairly nice lens which compared to the Canon "Kit" lens kicks butt but, compared to better lenses is not great. It is only fair to good wide open and the focus tends to hunt in low light (where it is most needed). However, my greatest… -
Contax G 45mm 2, Olympus Zuiko 90mm 2
All references will be provided upon request. I will ship outside of CONUS at extra cost. I love all of these, so it is sad to see them go. I have been using these on my NEX-7 with great results. 2. Contax G 45mm 2 This is a fine copy that I have. However, I have not used it as much as I did on m43. This will come with the… -
Re: Does gear really matter?
In client meetings, no one has ever asked specifically what gear I use. I assure every client that I always have a backup body or 2. For people who were shooting weddings BEFORE the dawn of the digital age, this is a very interesting question. Does gear matter? No. Can it change, transform or dictate your style? Certainly.… -
Re: Pros and cons of photography as a career (your experiences)
I've had a near record month of work. So busy that I've been away from the forums for a couple weeks. Its getting there... My work is going well but I still maintain a small, highly-flexible P/T job to insure the bills get paid. I fully expect to continue to pour 90-100% of my photo income back into the business. More… -
Re: SmugMug Update From Baldy
"Discarded" is an interesting term to propose. It's probably more appropriate to say "abandoned" or "left out". What I've realized is that the kind of photo site I want isn't what Smugmug cares about the most any more and thus they launched a massive new version that they knew would not meet my needs. I don't think they… -
Re: Save for Web & Devices - Help
First Q.... what browser? ...I use Windows Internet Explorer for my Browser and that is what PS uses in the Preview... You likely never saw it before because your old monitor was a standard sRGB gamut. Your PA241w is a wide gamut monitor. There is still something fundamentally wrong with how the file is tagged sRGB and…
