Re: Blunt critique and feeling good
I have to say I really din't know where to begin in trying to respond to this long thoughtful post, so I am not going to try. I will, instead, respond to a few of the responses: Jen, we are all our own worst editors. But if we don't at least try to be subjective about our work, we might as well give it up. I just went… -
Re: [RESOLVED] smugmug.images.getStats does not work
No, you're not way out of line, because you don't have inside knowledge of how the company works. But I do, and I'm happy to share. Buckle up, here's the brutal facts. :) The technical staff consists of two people: me and JT. JT does all the awesome UI elements you see on our pages, and I do everything else. Every new… -
Re: Choices, choices, choices…
I have a Nikon dSLR (D50) and a Canon T50 film SLR from the early 80s. I also use Canon video equipment. The D50 was my first dSLR, but I owned a few P&S digitals before that. I personally am not impressed with either resale value or the leaps and bounds of technology. My first digital camera was the Olympus D-490 a 2 MP… -
Help with Reds--Color Corrections Advise
I could use some advise/help with a problem. I was asked (as a fellow band parent/booster) to take pictures of our band kids so we (the boosters) could make 'pride' buttons for the parents to wear in support of the kids. This is strictly a "do-it-yourself" project for the band boosters (my daughter is in the band). I was… -
Sad hummingbird story
Yesterday I pulled into the driveway after work and as I looked through the garage and to the window at the other end, I saw the silhouette of a small bird. I've spotted some hummers a couple times at the new place (even though we don't have a feeder out) so I jumped off the bike and ran around the house to see if it was… -

Hiking Mt Washburn in Yellowstone National Park
We've been in the park off and on since June 1st and had yet to Hike Mt Washburn. We had went up there on one ocassion planing on hiking it, but when we got to the Chittenden Trail Head, the winds were whipping something awful and the temperatures were about 20 degrees colder than when we had left the Old Faithful Area. So… -

Re: Please help me choose a camera
Not knowing how long ago you bought your camera, all I can say about image quality is that sensors are getting better all the time (less noise, at progressively higher ISO. Better and more accurate saturation, and more pixels for improved sharpness when the lens is holding up its end). Shooting raw will help you wring more… -
Re: shallow DOF and getting proper focus
Elaine; A few things you need to change for the type photos you are taking. First to answer your question about why a fast lens.... Any lens has more distortion wide open, use a fast lens (1.2/1.4) so your smaller stops, ie. 2.0,2.8, etc. have less distortion. secondly, the closer you are to your subject the shallower your…
