Re: Sharpening for Metal Prints
Actually no. So here’s the deal. If you’re working with a halftone output, there is what is known as the quality factor or Q factor**. You first find out what linescreen is used for printing. It could be low (newspaper) at around 85lpi, it could be much higher for a good quality glossy sheet (185lpi+). At about 150lpi or… -
Re: iPad for photo editing
The iPad is NOT like a computer, and you can not run Lightroom on it. There are several photo editing apps available, but unlike LR, they do change the image. The included Photo app does not have any editing capability. You can purchase the Apple Camera Connection Kit, which includes a SD card adapter and a USB adapter. If… -
The perfect rugged standard DSLR?
I'm in a buying dilemma, searching for the "perfect" camera, so far it doesn't seem to exist but maybe I can get some advice on this forum to help me decide. I'm looking of a DSLR or DSLR-ish type camera. So far I've had a Nikon 990, Olympus 5050 and now a Canon A640. From my film days, I really miss having a decent peice… -
DSLR on a shoestring. A must read for Beginner Grinners.
Find a Canon 20D ($300 used), unless you print 40" posters you don't need more than 8 MegaPixels and the D20's 5 frames per second burst for action and its ISO 3200 capability set it apart from the similarly priced Rebels. Buy a Sigma 18-200mm OS lens (from $250 used to as low as $375 new). Go out and shoot pictures for a… -
A Day at New Brighton
A day spent in New Brighton near Liverpool, Merseyside UK. All images taken with a Kodak DCS 620c plus a Tamron 24 - 85mm f3.3 Zoom lens. I wandered around whilst my wife and her friends collected cockles from the beach which they do at least once a week. New Brighton unfortunately is a shadow of its former self, situated… -
Setup info
I got a series of questions via PM, and thought I would answer here:-) I use six ABs (4xAB800 + 2xAB400) and two ProFotos Compact-R (1x600 + 1x300). If push comes to shove, I can also add my Sunpacks and 580EXII to the mix, thus bringing the total number of lights to 11 (:-), but so forth I never had a need to do that… -
Re: Help with colour issue between Lightroom and Smugmug.
Gamma and monitor profile are apparently the key to this conundrum I'd say that there's a 90% chance this difference between the way the original on Smugmug looks in Safari and the way the smaller sizes on Smugmug look in Safari is because the original contains an embedded ICC profile and the smaller sizes do not (Smugmug… -
Re: Need little help for a caw
Antonio, The clone tool should work OK on this, but I will give you some guidelines and alternatives. First, when using the clone tool (or anytime you want to remove/alter something significant from the the original) work on a new layer. Ctrl-Shft-N on a PC. You may be getting less than optimal results with the clone tool… -
Re: Kristen and Dave
Great Ed... just add to my confusion!!! Monitor calibration is a funny thing. I have 2 monitors, both 1080i res, both calibrated with a spyder 3 pro, and they don't look anything alike. Go figure! The biggest thing I have been struggling with since calibrating my monitors has been brightness. I was used to having a… -
Re: How to Go Pro?
Whilst Shay already pretty much said it all I'd dare to add a few lines..:-) I'm still very much in the position of many who try to crank up the business side of the photography. I agree that there is a huge difference in "photography as hobby" and "photography as business". Which lies primarily in second words, i.e.…
