Re: What should smugmug award the big referrers?
I like the idea of rewarding referrals that don't use the referral codes. It's a crapshoot whether someone referred chooses to do that! I just exhaustively went through a smugmug-raison d'etre with my pro equine photog group in response to the solicitation that printroom sent out to many of our members recently. The… -
Re: 430ex or 580ex? pity me
The size isn't as big of a difference as people have stated. I own both the 580ex and the 420ex (model prior to 430ex) and don't feel the size difference matters that much. Both use 4 batteries and the weight isn't that much different either. Here's a comparison: 430ex: 2.8 x 4.8 x 4" (72 x 122 x 101mm) WxHxD, 11.6 oz (330… -

Re: First Time Senior Shoot
Hmm... I think the contrast in the first is better, this one feels more flat/grey. I wish I had the insight to be more specific on what needs to happen. Sorry. I think if you just bump your grey point a bit it will lighten things up, and if you can bring down the white point a bit as well. Regarding the lack of fill. Yeah… -

Re: Cropping Panoramic photos for print
OK Mary, Lets see if this helps. I see that you tend to crop your pano landscapes using the "willy / nilly" method. :D While it's not wrong to to crop on a random basis, you must realize that this will entail complete custom printing matting, and framing. My suggestion would be to establish your available choices for off… -
Re: Cards for 5DMkIII - your thoughts?
I've been using Lexar 400x and 600x SLC CF cards. The 400x are well priced and are technically more reliable than Transcend are, and will perform better in more extreme temps if you need it. Never had a failure and gone through a few snowstorms and crazy times with 'em. lol. Yeah, Transcend cards are reliable too but if… -
Re: computer advice
The SSD should hold, at least, your OS, applications, and your swap file. I don't know how much space Windows 7 takes up, or how many apps/etc. you have, but 64GB wouldn't be enough for me. My own SSD is 160GB, and I'm currently using 135GB of it (with none of my photo library on it). On the upside, it looks like one of… -
Re: The Event Marketing Help Thread
Too many galleries for just one event! We started using Events a while back, and love the Favorites capability for our clients. Shooting sporting events, they end up with thousands of images to sift through and the Favorites tool gives them an easy way to get back to what they like. Now on to the problem... We've just…
