Re: Assignment #40: 40mph+
Nikolai. Since the beginning I thought the photos to the back were possible. Neaker, May be the secret is a large car with a super suspension - remember the Citroen DS ? - or a trail like the ones used in films. May be, and I will not have the chance to, if the photos were shot from a train for example. There, you could… -
Re: PhotoKit Sharpener and SmugMug Printing - Settings? No idea what type printer SM uses
Thanks... I was looking all over for this page as I knew it had to exist - but was search deprived apparently at the time. Now my only question would be EZprints is noted to use either a 302 dpi or 254 dpi printer. While PhotoKit Sharpener is displaying output sharpening as ppi. How to compare dpi (dots per inch) to ppi… -
Re: Convert GIF 89 to 87a ???
Looking at the content of a GIF, I see that the "GIF89a" is right in the very first bytes. You might try using a binary editor to change that to look like the earlier version. Or you might write (or pay someone to write) some code to make a utility to make the changes. I don't have a GIF87 to look at so I can only show you… -
Results of Mini-Challenge 254 - Pets in action
The keyword of the theme is "action" and therefore "action" is the key to my ranking. There are some great shots without much action but with a high degree of cuteness effect. One of them is a little more outstanding than the others. HM to @DavidRGillespie for the image of Barney the Shi-tzu. The cuteness effect is high… -
Re: Bria at the Barn
Charles, no argument from me. My green channel at 255 has possibly lost data on her teeth already. Maybe or maybe not. The value could actually be 255, but if it's higher then we'll never know because it's clipped at 255. The blue channel of 254 is right up against the limit of course. Since all three values are so close… -
Re: Resolution...yes this topic again...
I'm not quite sure who came up with the "JPEGs are 72 dpi" idea, but it's just not true. JPEG's don't have a "canvas size", and thus, have a variable dpi range. They only have a raw pixels count ("resolution"). Here are a few examples to explain what I mean: - If you have two monitors, one a 17" at 800x600 and one a 24"… -
Re: Photoshop workflow when using Smugmug for printing?
Photoshop workflow when using Smugmug for printing? John, Thank you so much for your time and information. Between your help, SmugMug Help and clicking on Wiki I have a better understanding. One thing I have learned which I feel is important is the native resolution of the printers EZprints uses. For images 10x15 and less… -
Re: Camera to Photoshop to Smugmug Process
FYI, up-rezing the photo to 300 dpi isn't necessary. EZ Prints will up-rez your photos for you, and they do so with an algorithm that's designed for use with their printers. Further, depending on the item, 300 dpi isn't exactly correct since there are printers doing 302, 254, and 200 dpi. That results in more image quality… -

Dgrin is sick
I've been seeing very unresponsive dgrin performance in the last hour. Just did this tracert which points to issues on Smugmug's end of things: C:\Users\John>tracert www.dgrin.com Tracing route to pluto.smugmug.com [63.81.134.25] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1 2 9 ms 9 ms 10 ms…
