Re: Another Help Me Spend My Money Thread
Roughly speaking the Sigma 17-50 2.8 HSM is about $120 more than the Tamron, so that doesn't seem to bad. My total budget can flex a couple hundred if need be as well. I do shoot a fair amount of landscapes, but it will primarily be used for family and couple portraits. I plan to sell pretty much everything I have as I get… -
Re: Old Journey - Hilter's Eagle's Nest 1950
My grandmother's family emigrated to the US in 1895 so that the sons would not have to serve in the Kaiser's army. Left to right - my grandmother (Mary Barbara aka Babette), her father Ernst, her brother Lenhard, her sister Margretha, and her brother John. I'm wondering if the people were wearing their old fashioned… -
Re: Moving to FF! (5D Mk II) : How to spend lens budget?
I can see getting 2 good lenses and a flash, but a grip is pushing it unless its a 3rd party grip. For your bread and butter, I wouldn't compromise in IQ and build on what focal length(s) you need the most. If bust-length portrait is a majority of your work, I'd buy the Canon 135 F2, and a 3rd party 24-70 or 28-70mm lens… -
Re: Advertising Success Stories?
These are incredibly simple to set up. One backdrop per photographer, two lights (I use SB900 triggered with Pocket wizards), two shoot through umbrellas, and one stool. Sit, smile or make the face you want, snap the shot, check for the eyes and move onto the next one. They key is volume. Get em in, get em out. Don't try… -

Gubbs Swans - Recovering highlight detail
I enhanced this photo of Gubbs' in a different thread and he asked how. I originally used some features of PS that aren't in PS/Elsments, which is what Gubbs has, so I redid with only techniques I think are in Elements. Here is the original swan photo: A very nice image, and worth some work. We'd like to emphasize the… -
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge
Today I spent the day hiking and photographing in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife refuge. This was the first time I visited the place and I was surprised about where it was located. The Arsenal was a WWII through Cold War era chemical weapons manufacturing facility. It was decommissioned in the mid '80's and… -

An amazing shoot for a local billionaire's estate
Yes, that's billionaire with a "B"! I was contacted by an auction company that is in charge of liquidating a portion of the cars. They wanted me to photograph a few of the cars for their publication, and had a very short time frame. I went out last week to shoot and was completely blown away. I had no idea what I was…
