Re: Andy's Un-Official Unsolicited Mac Advice Thread
Tonight's story I'm in the mood to pile on Windows. For good reason. Here's my experience tonight. I recently purchased a used telescope for my family. It's about 8 years old, a very popular Meade ETX 90. It has a computerized controller that takes you on guided tours of the universe nightly. Very cool. Anyway I noticed… -
Re: LPS 19 Unofficial Feedback Thread
Here are my top ten in no particular order: Thoughts seemed to speak to me more than action but theme interpretation was forefront for my selections... #10 - Seastack: The expression on the dog's face says it all, great crop and depth of field #14 - PaulThomas McKee: WOW! I really wish I knew how Paul came up with his… -
Re: Dept. of Interior to charge for photography and filming
From what I can see the NPS is essentially codifying the regulations that were implemented in April and May of 2006. At that point NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) weighed in on the issue and basically declared it a non-issue. They comment this about half way down on their news page… -
Re: MM's and X zoom - part II.
Zoom, If I understand your original post, you mention two different things. One is the telephoto magnification factor, which is the focal length of the lens in consideration, divided by the focal length of a "standard/normal" lens for the system under consideration. For a 300mm lens on a 35mm film camera, this is 300/50,… -
Re: Lighting Test Shoplight vs alien bees vs 580EX vs others
I tested every light bare and with umbrella (43" wescott double fold shoot through). The umbrella consistently ate a stop and a third of light (1.3), so I'm not going to list it. Actual f-stop numbers for each light - 580EX - f20 The first light I tested so I didn't know what to expect. 580EXII - f20 Suprised me this was… -
Re: Who pays whom for event coverage?
January Thaw Equine Expo Over $3500 was raised at the third annual January Thaw Equine Expo for the local chapter of the Children's Wish Foundation. This was the third annual January Thaw Equine Expo and the event has grown dramatically in that short time. There were over 50 exhibitor booths (and a waiting list for exhibit… -
An interesting wedding
When I got the call about this wedding I knew something would be a little less than your traditional formal affair. I happen to be available for the date & time, less than a month away. I met with the bride and her grandmother, and booked the wedding. It is to take place in a small town on the lake, outside at 10am. They… -
Re: Dark skin
The problem with black skin is the variety and range of tones. There is equal variety in caucasian skin but the range is much narrower and the difference tends to be straightforward: magenta and yellow will be proportional throughout the range; the difference will be how far ahead of cyan they run. Pale skin will have cyan… -
Re: Full Moon
I did use a tripod just that you can't shoot straight up with a gimbel head so shortened two legs and sat on ground. I had forgot about the moon and saw message in other forum and by the time I went out it was overhead. It was below freezing and strong wind but managed enough stability for a couple shots. I cranked to ISO… -
Re: Strobist Kit Advice
Since you already have a 580ex II, all you really need is a light stand, a PC cord or a wireless trigger of some type, and an umbrella and/or a nice lightbox diffuser. This will cost less than the Starving Student kit if you use a PC cord or the Cactus V2 wireless triggers. You can find light stands, umbrellas, etc at B&H…
