Re: Color Management ??
She is standing in the shade in a forest - I would expect blue, green tones in this environment. Sky yields blue light ( as in shade ) and green leaves filter in the green light from sunlight. That is how the scene looks, what you are searching for is how you want it to look. I prefer the second image. When I read the pixel… -

Mini Challenge #178 - Pets - The results
Thank you everyone who took part, I really enjoyed the images. As ever, judging is never easy and always to some degree subjective - so, sorry if I get it wrong! Before announcing the winners here are a couple of images which I want to mention simply because I've a comment to make, not necessarily because they are better… -
Re: Help needed on Color Correction..please read
Colour Cast Hey Micheal, First of all, I don't think there was very much wrong with the colour on the original photo. Maybe only needed some contrast changes. The sheen you see is a blue colour cast. I haven't got Scott's book to refer to, but here is how I checked your photo. First of all, my assumption is that the… -
Re: technical questions on this landscape...
Tessa: I'm not an expert on landscapes; just a wannabe, so I'll quote from what I consider to be a very good book on landscapes: In his book Audubon Society Guide to Landscape Photography, Tim Fitzharris states; "The image will be most arresting if it displays sharply from front to back (is in focus). This can be… -
Re: Computer Monitor vs. TV.
The Samsung 2463UW-1 uses a 6bit TN panel. I can tell by its' stated 160 degree viewing angle. IPS and PVA monitors are stated to 178 degree. The Samsung is probably a great gaming and video watching monitor but is NOT ideal for image editing. I suggested those, first - because they all use IPS panels, and second - it… -
Re: Faulty TFT screen?
Ah! there's your problem. TN panel, 6bit colour depth. This model is an inexpensive LCD oriented to gamers and general home/office use - email, document editing, web browsing. It is not built for quality image editing. FYI, you can research these things on several web sites. I'm too lazy/busy to retype the info so I'm… -
Re: Laptop LCD Quality - are any comparable to pro/semi-pro monitors?
I'm not aware of any Sony laptops or any current production consumer grade (vs custom industrial or military) laptop/notebook other than the HP 8740w having an IPS panel. If you have an URL pointing me to specs confirming an IPS panel I'd appreciate you posting it here. If you haven't seen my posts here before, I try to… -
Yet another reason to get 50D
I never thought I would actually use this feature... The micro adjustment, that is. Recently I realized that my focusing is off. At first I thought is was silly old me, but a few hours of experimenting with a ruler, two bodies and three lenses showed pretty reliably it's a camera, and a little bit of one lens, my…
