Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
I'm still at 719 kbps download. I get 11MB at other POPs and 7-10MB with myspeed and other benchmark sites. I masked identifying info on line 4: Tracing route to hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.16.48.1 2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.16.245.210 3 32 ms 31 ms 31 ms 10.16.248.53 4 32 ms… -
Re: TIPS: How to break our from a dry spell?
I actually lost my interest for photography for almost 20 years, and have just recently this past year gotten back into it with all the same passion that I had before. I'm sure a 20 year hiatus isn't what you want to hear, but that was me. I don't know your situation, but Sean makes an invaluable point! Go back to the… -

Re: Erich's family vacation
Thanks Kevin! My post-processing workflow is as follows: 1. Convert to RAW images to DNG using DxO Optics software. This removes the lens' optical distortions and blur. Works really great. Check out their website at www.dxo.com. 2. Use Camera RAW in Photoshop to do exposure adjustments. I usually underexpose my shots… -
Re: Good camera for an outdoors kiosk?
It would be helpful to know the nature of the kiosk. I can envision safety, security, surveillance and access monitoring applications. Is your application one of these or something else? The more you describe the application the more definitive we can be in a product solution. -- Souvenir photos of foursomes at golf… -

Just idle curiosity after participating in a flashlight EDC discussion on the EDCForums: Do you carry a flashlight every day? Do you carry a flashlight on shoots? Day or night? Do you have a flashlight in your camera or gear bag? If so, what kind? I'll start: I EDC (Every Day Carry) several flashlights: * A Coleman Max 144… -

Mini Challenge #144 - Sounds of Summer
I recently attended a creative writing workshop and the first exercise we were given was to go outside and truly listen to whatever sounds there were for 20 minutes - and then write about it. I was utterly amazed at the things I heard - some pleasant, some annoying, some man made and some from mother nature herself. So,… -
Re: Request: D70 EXIF
Nikon D70 EXIF Explained I've figured out the makernote situation for the D70 completely, thanks to some wonderful Web resources. I even have working code that smugmug is welcome to use to get these features incorporated on their site. Enjoy! The Nikon D70 stores a bunch of useful information in the makernote section of… -
SOLD: 1ghz 15" Titanium Powerbook, upgraded
I just bought a new MacBook Pro, so I'll be selling my Powerbook. It's a Titanium, 15", 1ghz G4, with 1GB of memory, a SuperDrive (DVD burner), and I upgraded the hard drive from 60GB to 80GB. I've had this computer for 41 months (or so the computer tells me). It's had the logic board replaced twice by Apple under…
