Re: Turning one light into two...
Thanks for the comments everyone; I tried reversing it, and it works alright, but not really the same. It ends just looking like some extra fill rather than an actual rim light. I agree that it's actually too bright, but for what it is, I can't complain too much. I tried the overhead flash idea, but there were two… -
Re: outdoor FAMILY portraits
If you subjects have the sun to their back or side, you are going to have shadows on their faces. The more the sun is behind them, the darker the shadows. The only way to fix this and not blow out the background is to provide some light on the shadow side of the subject. You can use reflector(s) and/or fill flash to fill… -

Re: Entering print comp....cc away
Well, the results are in and I need to improve some and the judges were tough, but they always are. It's the only way to improve when others judge you work and give cc. One of the judges was a 25 year old female that had her Masters from the Professional Photographers of America. That takes a bunch of years to obtain and… -
Re: Looking into the PC vs. Mac debate
The decision to go with a Mac is 95%+ a software decision. Sure, the hardware is pretty, and the industrial design is nice, and maybe the quality is higher (certainly when you compare a MacBook or MacBook Pro to the big, plastic, piece of crap that is a Dell laptop), but that's not really where the value is. Mac OS X just… -
Re: not in it for the $$$
Passion. It's not just for breakfast anymore. I am one who long ago had a hobby and a passion, and then somehow ended up in an associated retail business for several decades. The work killed off my passion for that activity early on, and for a long time, doing that activity myself (bike riding) reminded me too much of… -
Re: The Canon 1dx
My guess is because computer systems aren't totally there yet... and it's not cost-friendly or practical for manufacturers to do it yet either considering where the computer market is with higher bit rendering. %95+ of displays and video cards right now are still 8 bits a channel and even though there are "full range wide… -
SM Lightroom Plugin
I've got a self created mess with my SmugMug-Lightroom plugin. It's been a mess for a long time that I've ignored simply because I still had the functionality I needed. Hopefully, the attached screen cap will help facilitate the best direction to untangle the mess if anyone is brave enough to jump in and help. As you can… -
