Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
I'm still at 719 kbps download. I get 11MB at other POPs and 7-10MB with myspeed and other benchmark sites. I masked identifying info on line 4: Tracing route to hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.16.48.1 2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.16.245.210 3 32 ms 31 ms 31 ms 10.16.248.53 4 32 ms… -

squirrel ad absurdum
Over in furry friend tmlphoto posted a really cool shot, but when I looked at it un reduced I found a bunch of artifacts and crud as seen from the following crop: I took a look at the data in the file and found: 10d, 100-400L at 400mm, ISO400, wide open at f5.6, a -.5 exposure adustment, and 1/350th. Post processing… -

Re: Canon 400mm f5.6L ?'s
That combo doesn't work with my 20D. I've spent a lot of time researching TCs and have found that not everyone gets the same results, even with the same combination of components. I have a 20D, 100-400, and 400 F5.6, Kenko Pro DG 1.4x and Canon 1.4x. Both TCs are taped. Here's what works and what doesn't work for me.… -
Re: Tokina 12-24 & Sigma 8-16
The Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM is in a class of zoom lenses I prefer to call "Ultra-Wide-Zoom" lenses. It is very unique in the angle-of-view (AOV) it can provide, and it does have some concessions. One appears to be a considerable field curvature, exacerbated by close focus. What this means is that for subjects closer… -
Trying to sell a lens and I think I'm being low balled
So I got my rebel kit back in December with the EF-S 18-55mm IS lens. I've since gone on to buy two new lenses, and realized I don't use the kit lens anymore, so why not sell it and put it toward another lens? So I did a bit of research on the lens and what it goes for used, and this is what I found... Adorama $124:… -
Re: Indecisive decision on next glass purchase
Getting decent zoom lenses for under $500 is a bit of a challenge. The 28-135mm is said to be pretty decent for the money, but bear in mind that on an APS-C format camera like the XSi, 28mm will not be very wide. Rather than acting like a wide-to-near-telephoto lens, as it would on a full-frame camera, it will be more like… -
Re: please critique my first wedding set
first wedding set. I hope the following is helpful...I looked at your website and it is very good. Okay, here goes. Picture composition and coverage is good. However, you have some glaring errors. First being that the white balance is off in some of the shots. White clothes look blue or gray (off white)...custom white… -
Polarizing filters questions...
Should I remain married to the Olympus line, or is it "safe" to test the waters of other manufacturers? Also, I have been doing some reading, and it seems that there exist polarizers that are linear and circular (I love the qualities polarizing light lends to photos, if I can figure out how to scan the slides, I'll post…
