Naic Cockpit, Philippines
First, let me start this off by saying that I am an animal lover and would never condone cockfighting in America. However, in the Philippines, cockfighting is legal and a huge pass time and tradition. My wife's uncle owns fighting cocks so he took me to the local cockpit in the city of Naic. My goal during this trip was to… -
Finally, more from my first wedding, lot's of images
I shot the entire day in aperture priority because I was sick so it was easy, and I heard it was good to catch the quick moments. These are some I want to share for several reasons, some I think are really nice images, some I just love the content. My bride was a no nonsense gal, so I did not ever have her alone to shoot… -
Re: Experience with scanner
To scan 4x5 negatives you'll need a 4000 series Epson flat bed scanner, although my stepfather has an HP unit with a 4x5 attachment light, I have no idea how old or what model this is. Basically a flat bed scanner serves a dual purpose, reflective and tranparency media. For transparency media you need a light source below… -
Re: Looking for Freedom Input
I'm away for the weekend and am borrowing a laptop to check my email. I have a lot to say but not a l ot of time... To the OP: I don't know what to say about your "guilt" comment. I would hope this discussion isn't about guilting anyone and more about a discussion about what is safe and the ethics many photographers face.… -
Re: Shooting Water Drops
The hand was not in front of the pellet. The camera angle just makes it appear that way. All these shots required precise planning and, in some cases, mathematical calculations were needed to determine the timing delays. To place the drop and pellet at the precise location and fire the flash at the precise moment leave… -
Re: The great race (Iditarod photos)
Thanks everyone! At CSteak... awww your doggie shot is cute even without perfect focus... he has the "head tilt and tips of his ears folded down" thing going on! Cute! I haven't actually ridden in a dog sled, but it might be fun. We did go for a sleigh ride behind horses this Christmas, but can you believe I completely… -
Re: What advertising works?
For a job, I am self-employed, but not in photography. I do tech service for business and individuals. The best money I've ever spent in advertising was on notepads. I ordered about 5k pads, 20 pages per pad, each sheet is 1/4 page, cardboard backing, glue-up on top edge. Top of page is company name and contact… -
Re: SF 3 Backstage
"Shockwave" was an image that was stuck in my head from the last time I experimented with a 3 watt LED and an oil coated DVD. The setup is really pretty simple: Take a DVD and put a thin coat of cooking oil on it (I used canola because it's almost clear) then add a drop of water. The oil serves two purposes: The first is… -

Re: indoor events with people..what lens best
I see that you are shooting with f2.8 or faster lenses at ISO 400 with the flash off the camera. As LiquidAir said, there should be ample light from a 580ex IF the ceiling is white, and less than 10 feet high, because you will be bouncing off it unless you are using direct flash ( flash pointing directly at your subjects…
