Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
Ouch, only 347kbps from home, completely different network - speedtest now realizes I'm in Pittsburgh, not our corpHQ in NY. Direct to the Speedtest Frederick POP gets 1300. C:\Documents and Settings\ME>tracert www.smugmug.com Tracing route to hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 132 ms 171 ms 169… -
Re: mpeg 2
I agree with everything you two just said (I don't have a problem with WMV though, I find it very convenient and a useful codec. I used it for over a year with no problems on my home server). MPEG-4 WOULD be much better than Flash...but I'd choose Flash over MPEG-1! Smugmug seems more inclined to use Flash over MPEG-4, so… -
Re: Need help choosing a camera for merchandise photography
For the best, most accurate, color rendition of products I highly recommend using electronic flash as the light source. Flash has the most complete color spectrum of any of the more common light sources. Most electronic flash can also be adjusted for output, making it easier to control lighting ratios. Daylight florescent… -
Re: What the....is this???
Figured I would copy/paste so people don't have to click the link: <big><big style="font-family: arial; color: rgb(255, 255, 204); font-weight: bold;">POLAROID PRINTER COPIERS - 1958. The Polaroid printer copiers were designed for use with various Polaroid cameras (Model 240, shown above, was for use with camera Models 95,… -
Re: Looking for Category and Subcategory feature input
Easier Please Please make the entire process easier! I think that probably 95% of the people here will agree with me in that the basic idea behind computer file management is folder in a folder in a folder, and so on. We all understand this concept. The currently method of setting up SM galleries, and sub galleries is not… -
Re: WTB: Nikon D-90 or D-300???
So... Here I sit a week later, and have just scratched most of the hair off of my head. I'm still leaning towards the D300, BUT; I can get an extra lens if I get the D90. Remember, the 300 comes with none. 1. What I am left pondering is this... How much better of a picture am I going to be able to take with the 300 as… -
Re: cheerleading
Thanks rogerchester, I will say that online sales drop off to the point of being non-existent after 72 hrs from the completion of the event. I get the occasional straggler a few days or even a couple weeks later, but those are little bonuses. I print onsite so that is where I get 95% of my sales. When you say you have 4… -
Re: Maintenance Window Sucks
Quck response :-) I'm not saying you do it arbitrarily, I'm saying because the bulk of your userbase is in the US, this makes the least inconvenient time for planned outages map to what it is today. As I say, I'd choose the same time, becuase I'd apply the same logic to determining the time. (Leaving aside for a moment the… -
Re: Where To Focus
Scott, Let me apologize for the tone of my original comment. Quite frankly, it was meant more as a compliment to your photography work than anything else. I've looked at your site and you clearly know your way around the camera. Some of your wedding portrait shots are awesome and were clearly taken by a person with a good… -
Re: Bare bones equipment for weddings/portraits, the role of "second shooter"
First of all, may I say that your exposure for a majority of the shots are good. Little bright on some and a little dark on some, but over all...good. The biggest thing I noticed right away, even before scrolling through the photos (just looking at thumbs) was that most of the shots the couple is dead center in the frame.…
