Re: Scotty's Castle
Thanks, Rags. There are dunes east of the Castle? That's news to me. The park ends just a bit to the east of Scotty's, then you're on the long road out to 95 at Scotty's Junction on 95. Not much there I didn't think. The only dunes I know of are the big ones near Stovepipe wells. I guess those are south-southeast from the… -
Re: DEAL: MEMORY, all cards (CF, SD, etc)
Thanks! Both 8Gb and 16Gb deals look very nice UPDATE: *) rebate seems to be in form of a prepaid Visa card *) buying more than one item (up to three) increases per-item rebate amount slightly, e.g. : for Sandisk 8Gb III Extreme rebates are: 1 card - $40, 2 cards - $100 (i.e. $50/ea), 3 cards - $160 (i.e. $53.33/ea) for… -
Re: Andy/Baldy - feed me
I am about to order my vitamix, maybe this week. Last week I started to see 179lbs on the scale, six month ago I would have thought it to be impossible to weigh in even under 190. So I am trying to make my diet even healthier. I am trying to switch from canned beans to dry beans. What is the easiest way to prep the beans?… -
Re: exposure compensation question
As webguy said use the big wheel on the back of the 20D. This is how I do it.* Assuming your in Av mode * Press shutter release 1/2 way down. * Check the exposure meter in the view finder * Dial in the desired exposure compensation using the big wheel * You should easily be able to do this without taking your eye away from… -

Re: Should i buy this tripod in the next 3 hours ?
better to spend more Buy the right tripod and it will last you a lifetime. More is more with tripods-you need a fair amount of weight if you are going to use a non image stabilised telephoto outdoors, along with spiked feet. A manfrotto art 190(Bogen in US-ha ha) is quite versatile as a starter and gets down low and splayed… -
Re: Photoshop LAB color worth it for newbie?
Ok, good, some examples So here is my version done in RGB The steps needed to reproduce the results: copy original layer paste image and set blending to "color dodge" with 20% opacity levels 30,110,190 [edit note, I changed it from 180 to 190 it looked a little too bright (reload image if needed)] saturation +15 Now I do… -
Re: Football under the lights question
I'm not familiar with Norman gear, but I didn't want you post to fall into the black hole Isn't the 400b a power supply? What is the "True" WS of the flash head you'll be using? If it's 400 true WS, you'll be more than fine. I use a Canon 580EX with good result and its GN is 190. Not sure how that translates to WS. I have… -
Re: To bring or not?
I'd recommend getting several more 8GB or 16GB CF cards. You want really reliable brand names such as Lexar or Sandisk. Advantage of using multiple CF cards: not all the eggs are in one basket; disadvantage: have to keep track of multiple cards and not to loose any. There are deals all the times and you have plenty of time… -
