Re: G15 vs. P7700
Hi Lyle...looks like you haven't had much of a response to your query. I happen to have gotten a P7700 as an early birthday present in March. I was looking for the same thing as you...a high-end point and shoot...easy to shoot...lots of controls on the body...and most of all...DSLR like images with as much usable ISO as… -
Mini #198--Ornamental RESULTS
Mini Challenge #198--Ornamental RESULTS<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Well, there weren't many entries (which made me sad), but I think the images that were posted were all excellent. That kind of made my job harder instead of easier, but I will take… -
Re: >>> DSS Challenge #4 (Photo Filters): Feedback Thread
Feedback for Pages 6 and 7 Entries #51 Sibling Rivalry (Michael Atkins) - This is such a good bear shot! I felt the filter effect chosen actually detracted a bit. This might also have been better as a vertical crop. Brings back fond memories of living in Alaska :) #52 Just Married (jeffreaux2) - Another one I agonized over… -
Re: Summer Bridals
thanks for the bump jeff, I meant to come back and give detailed feedback as I *really* like this set. That 85mm is a sweet lens and I remember how amazed I was at the sharpness and bokeh when I first got mine! When you have enough room to use it, it is awesome. It looks like you had plenty. 1. I like your shooting angle,… -
Re: Well, about that wedding tease a couple weeks ago...
Okay....here's the...shorter version. 1-Awesome "moment catch"!!!. The flash is a tad strong...hot....the door frame being so bright kinda irks me, but the contageous emotion carries it off. Maybe a tighter vignette to kill that door frame a bit?......I like the way you composed this. 2-Yup...that's pretty shallow. Going… -
Re: Some portraits (C&C please)
I haven't read anyone else's comments yet, so if I'm repeating anything that someone else has said, it's because I don't want my initial comments influenced by others. Photo 1 I see more things done "right" than "wrong" (though I don't normally use those words this way). If hard light is what you were going for, it works,… -
Re: soft shots?
Focus and recompose can cause mis-focus on closer subject matter. Large aperture settings can indeed reduce the DOF to the point where subjects at different distances can be soft. Low-light conditions can produce inaccurate AF. If you have any links to full resolution image examples, which also have full EXIF, it would be… -
Re: Talk me into Nikon...
I've got one reason to go to Nikon: Shadow noise. 3 more years of shadow noise. I use my cameras for work. I often have to deal with dynamic range limitations of sensors, and I also deal with both extremely bright and very dark situations all the time. As a long-time Canon user, my main cameras are currently a 5d3 and… -
My version of the "DSLR vs P&S" debate
First, hi from a new (Smugger? Mugger? SM'er? Grinner? :) ). It was "features" like the warm community, and Don & team's tireless customer advocacy that made me sign up just days ago over Fl*ckr. While this is an oft maligned debate, I know that I personally enjoy and benefit from each person's unique perspective, so I… -
