Need overnight posing help, oh talented 'togs!
Oy. Sometimes my worlds collide.... A colleague and I are doing a recital for the college where we teach (so far so good). The concert isn't until the spring, but they have announced at rather short notice that they want some nice promotional shots of us as a duo. We of course have our individual headshots, but several… -
Photography off the grid
Hi, I am currently planning a trip to South America for 10 days where I will be without any electricity for at least 5 to six days in a row. I am currently trying to figure out how to make sure I have enough power for my camera during this time. What I will be bringing is a Lumix GX7 wit 14-42mm and 45 -175mm. Currently I… -

Climbing Mount Rainier
Over the past year my interests in photography have taken a serious back seat to my interests in mountaineering and conditioning for that sport. The goal is to become a strong enough and proficient enough in mountaineering that I can eventually combine that with my interest in photography. For now though, my Nikon dSLR and… -
FS: Bags, books, filters, and more
I am simplifying my process and what I use and it's time to empty the storage boxes and the closet to pass on some excellent condition items. I've listed what I think are exceedingly fair prices. If you disagree, make me an offer. I'm interested in moving all of this stuff out of the storage boxes and out of my psyche, so… -

Re: Camera/Lens "Calibration"
UJ, Don't worry unless you need to. How do you know if you need to? I generally take a fence row or a brick wall or something similar that is capable of being shot from an angle, 45 degrees or a little more. Work with a tripod or at least use a bright day and ISO 200 - 400 to get the shutter working faster. Set the camera… -
Re: MM's and X zoom - part II.
Zoom, If I understand your original post, you mention two different things. One is the telephoto magnification factor, which is the focal length of the lens in consideration, divided by the focal length of a "standard/normal" lens for the system under consideration. For a 300mm lens on a 35mm film camera, this is 300/50,… -
Re: EOS R vs Nikon z6
I am in exactly the same boat, with the same camera. To my mind the R isn't very attractive at the moment- resolution is better than the 5d mkii (50% more, which I suppose is better), but seems pretty much equal to the 5d mk iv- at least on the spec sheet, I don't know how the "look" of it is different. I suspect that the… -
Re: Value of my photographs
Hi- Learned a lot last year about selling photgraphs. 1. I took a panoramic of the flooding in Annapolis MD after Hurricane Isabel. I hung it in a coffee shop, put a price tag of $45 on it It flew off the shelves, so I immediatley raised the price to $70. Why $70? Because it's what i would pay for it. Well, that price…
