Mini Challenge #209 - Barns
I am assuming that one can find barns in almost any country in the world, whether new, old or dilapidated. So, this challenge is all about barns - any age, any color, any design, BW or color photo - but it needs to be a barn. This challenge will run for 2 weeks - from today until Wednesday, July 22, 2015 @ 5:00pm PST-USA.… -
Terre Haute Air Show with the Blue Angels August 2018
I spent Sunday afternoon at the air port watching the 2018 air show. I didn't take a camera bag nor a tripod - it was a hot, very humid, long oppressive day in the sun, and I was not wanting to carry very much, so all I brought was my 7D Mk II and a Tamron 18-300mm zoom - partly as an experiment to see if I could capture… -

Downeast solstice
I was feeling the need for an Acadia National Park "fix" by mid-December. I settled on a long weekend just before the winter solstice for a quick wander, starting my journey with a quick (overnight) visit with a friend in Yarmouth, ME. That gave me a jump up the coast, allowing me to spend the afternoon of my first… -
Day at the Los Angeles Arboretum
Had nothing planned for yesterday and the weather was nice so we took a drive down to the Los Angeles Arboretum. I had never been. My wife went as a kid so it was like her first time as well. There are several gardens like this in the greater Los Angeles area. The most notable is the Huntington Library. Although it didn't… -
1200 miles, 3 states, 2 countires, 3 kids, 1 wonder of the world
My wife and I are crazy. We packed up our 11 month old daughter, our 5 year old son, and our 9 year old son in a rented Acadia for an old fashioned road trip vacation Griswald style. 1st stop? Darlington PA for my family reunion, then Tom Petty @First Niagara Pavillion, didn't feel like sneaking a camera in and this was… -
Fire!
Some of the shots from a fire last week. I've never shot outside before, let alone action outside. The only thing I've done with this gear is shoot gymnastics. So there's a bit of a learning curve, and as you can see, some of the photos are blown out. I stayed way back at first because I didn't want to get in the… -

Re: A few questions from a beginner
If you are on manual and you set your aperture to as high as it will go (maybe like f/22?) and keep your shutter speed the same, you are allowing a lot less light in, hence the black picture. When you're on manual, you really need to pay attention to your exposure meter. That is the little bar on the bottom of your view…
