Re: Good all around lens for Nikon D50?
you should look at the Nikon 28-105 f3.5-4.5 (3.75x zoom). It's not very wide (42mm equiv. on a film body) but, it's a very good lens that has a very useful and effective 1:2 macro capability. It's sharp wide open with only mild distortion on both ends. Comparing to the super zooms this lens wins in optical quality hands… -
Re: Customer Complaints
Your photos look fine. I just do not agree with the business model of $2 4x6 and $5 5x7. How do you cover costs at these prices? Are you selling 100 4x6's per day? Are you doing this to make a living? Are you running a full fledged business with insurance? Would it be possible for you to go thru your time spent on the day… -
Re: still even more motocross.
another thougth. most tracks have a schedule. get one and have a look. If you've been asked to shoot, just purely for the sake of shots. you're obviously going for shots, not sepcific people. knowing the class's will help. better riders produce better shots, as shown by my bermbusting friend on the Yamaha. there is a LOT… -
Re: Newbie is lost with Basketball shots
A few thoughts. I'm not familiar with the D100 - or anything Nikon for that matter. But, set your camera to A mode (I think it's A on a Nik), and set your ISO as high as you can, and your aperture as open as you can. You want to stop motion, and that means higher shutter speed. The rule of thumb I've heard is 1/focal… -
Re: Another Tilt Shift Fake from Venice
Of course, I'd be more than happy to. The Idea of a fake tilt shift is to do exactly that- to make the picture appear like it's a "miniature scale set up" as you put it. Table-top models. First off- I do this in CS2/CS4 depending on the computer I'm working on at the time. It can be done in Elements slightly different… -
Re: Upgrading to 40D....
Well, I visited B&H yesterday and looked at the 24-105L on my XT, and I also examined and tried the 40D in some detail. I surprised myself actually in the outcome. I was leaning heavily toward the lens. I tried it on my XT, and it looked fine. It did not make the camera hard to hold, nor upset the balance that I could… -
Re: Software License Vendor = Glamour Model?
I'll have a stab at this...I'm only new around here so feel free to take this with a large pinch of salt... It looks like you've run some relatively serious skin smoothing over her face (minus the eyes and mouth). Everything in the image is crazy sharp including her hair and clothes. Normally having the eyes and mouth… -
Re: Why am I so fixed on f/2.8?
I feel your pain, and the cure is $$$. You have crop camera, so before you lust too much, you should decided if your going to stick with your camera, or move up to a Full Frame camera in the next year or so. I don't think the 17-40 lens is at it's best on a 1.6 crop camera, you can't get as wide as you think you will. I… -
Re: Lens for Weddings Question
When I was only using crop bodies (30D and 40D) the 17-55 f2.8 IS was my bread and butter lens for weddings. I used it for 90% of my shots. The 70-200 f2.8/L IS was and still is w/ FF my primary ceremony lens, and I use it occasionally during the reception for some candid far away shots, but due to the weight, I tend to… -
Re: landscape focus question
Most will tell you to set the lens to the hyperfocal distance---however that's not a good idea generally. If there is an obvious center of interest, focus on that. Otherwise, set the focus to infinity. This way you'll lose a bit of (relative) sharpness in the foreground ... but since the objects in the foreground are…
