Re: Scanners
As is today, the only decent 35mm slide scanners (dedicated film scanners that is) that are not more than $5000 are the Nikon Coolscans. They currently have 3 models- the V, the 5000, and the 9000, priced at ~$500, $1000, and $2000. I currently own the 5000, which does 16bit imaging, with a DMax (density range) of 4.8 at… -
Re: Looking for a digital camera for Sports, can you help?
Right now I am torn between 4 cameras: Olympus CAMEDIA C 750 not all the bells and wistles as the others but I can get an underwater camera housing for it and use my camera diving. Downside is the slower autofocus, no manual controls, and as far as I know there is no burst options. FujiFilm S7000 Finepix Has all the bells… -
Re: It's engagement season right?
That was the one and only shot I took all day that was wide open. Normally I don't like to shoot my 85 at 1.2 just because of the difficulty focusing. Not sure how in this picture I managed to get them in focus - they were rocking back and forth and goofing off. I really wanted to tell them just to stand still so that I… -
Re: Nikon Capture NX2 vs LR2. The same or different?
I beg to differ with Nathan. I have extensively tried both LR and LR2 and used Capture NX and am now using Capture NX2. I find Capture NX2 just as fast if not faster for image editing than LR2 in my experience. I've also found that with Capture NX2 my output is that much better, less noise, better colours, and the… -
Re: Lens Recommendations for Nikon D50
55-200 is like the 18-55, a kit lens for the D50. I'd recommend the 18-70 kit lens that comes with the D70 as well. This lens is much higher in quality than your typical 'kit' lens. He can buy one used at around $250, which leaves money for a 70-300 zoom to accomodate his zoom desires. Edit: note that the Nikon 70-300… -
Re: Monitor Profile Settings in CS2 - calibrated or sRGB
So I'm glad to know that I was correct in setting the monitor to the "profiled" profile. If the image in question had been my photo it would have been easier to believe it was greenish - image in question is the 750 px smugmug calibration image. I tried the same experiment on another LCD monitor/computer, set up similarly.… -
Re: What are your packages?
Ihave two basic packages. My "Cherished Memories" package is the full meal deal from manicure to midnight (well, 'til the first dance is done) - and maybe a bit more. They get: A CD with 2 files - one with images suitable for web distribution and one with images ready for printing at 8 x 10 - including a written license… -
Re: stickyfilters anyone? (flash gels)
Maybe, but remember two things: 1. The amount of color shift we see is more related to the percentage change in degrees Kelvin than the total number of degrees Kelvin, so a change of 750 K on a 3000 K light about the same color shift as 1500 K on a 6000 K light. 2. Shade can be very blue. First of all, by definition, shade… -
Re: Decisions Decisions -> New SLR Purchase
Not laughing at all. If you have the money, buy what you want. Don't settle for something that you "might" like or want. I did that with my first (and only, so far) DSLR. I wish I would've been able to afford what I really wanted at the time. I use my camera 95% for taking pics of my kids and if I were buying a camera… -
