Hey, they offer group discounts and customized small tours.

Surely we can put together 15 interested dgrinners? Their normal tours are 8am-5pm, and I'd be interested in arranging one that started pre-dawn, so we could catch more of the magic light. iloveyou.gif

    Carpool from Thousand Oaks?
Add me to the list - in a heartbeat! Frank, my husband would join us too.

Looks like we can do a carpool from Conejo Valley. Anyone have a van?

    Sounds Interesting
I always thought the LA River was a myth. :D

I grew up in So Cal and have ridden my bike along all bike paths that
    follow the rivers of LA/OC.

Sounds like a fascinating tour, places that I'd love to shoot, but too
afraid of getting arrested or mugged.

I live in the Bay Area but would consider a trip to LA.

    I'll subscribe to this thread.

    Anyone else interested?

All who ARE interested, how shall we decide on a date? I'd like to find a way to get us all going, and it sounds like we could book a special tour if we have enough. They limit it to 15. I think we can do that!

David why don't you pick two dates, see if they are available those dates and then post a poll of which would be best?

For me, I'd prefer the route starting in the North and ending in the South....and on a Sunday....

I looked at the dates listed -- either the Feb or March date. Two days? One Day?

If we're doing a one day, I rather go on a Saturday since I don't' have to worry as much about the flight home as much.

If we go on Sunday (ends at 5 pm), I just have to make sure that the tour company holds my overnight bag for the trip (or carry it with me during tour) since I will probably need to go from the tour directly to LAX (or SNA, or any of the other LA area airports). Last flight into San Jose is about 8/9 pm (10 pm curfew landing times) and I can leave a bit later if I fly into SFO. Do-able, but just requires more planning and a bit more worrying.

i can do March 28th only...

i would drive down on the 27th, and i expect to do some beach shots that evening.
not sure where to plan on staying overnight. stay at a hotel or a ditch somewhere over night...could use advice... (if infact this will be the day you all select)

I've sent off an inquiry to them about March 28-29, to find out how much room is available and if we can get a group discount.

So, assuming it's those dates, how many are in? And for which dates or both? I'm doing both. :D

I'd only do one day and prefer the Sunday hoping it goes North to South. March is a busy time for Frank but he'd do the Sunday too.

OK, so we're looking to get 15 people for both days. You can sign up for 1 day only, or both.

I think I'll generate a registration form, so standby before replying. Give me a chance to get it up.

They'll be holding the spots for us through the end of their tour at the end of the month, so we have about 3 weeks to get our act together.

Please, spread the word so that we can have enough bodies to fill both days and get a nice discount as well as the ability to choose start times and other stuff (since we'll be the only ones).

Here's what they told me in email:
Do you have any idea how many people you are talking about? Our policy is 15 maximum per tour, but for people who know each other, it might be fine to expand that a bit without creating problems. We would just get a little bigger bus. We can hold spots until right after our January tour, when we will start getting commitments for the March tour. If you can give us an estimate, we will come up with an appropriate discount. Obviously, if you fill a bus you would have other options like choosing the start time. Will some be coming from out of town? One of our more illustrious participants, Lee Varis, has already published a blurb book from his tour images. You might want to take a look at: http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/526006. We also had Gil Garcetti (who did the famous photo book on the building of the Disney Concert Hall) on our last tour. His testimonial can be found at: http://web.mac.com/markindigphotography/UPS/December_Gallery.html.

Sounds interesting. I could probably do the Saturday tour in March (drive down from Vegas on Friday night and return home on Sunday). Do they hit the Sepulveda Dam on the north end tour? I've always wanted to photograph there.

I don't think so, and to tell the truth, I hope not. It's too easy to access. I'm looking to this for access to areas that are normally...not.

i imagine we would need to fill the tour to get them to do that?

I also confirmed this with them, their reply:

It is the parking spot for the day and the first tour stop as well.

Yes, it would raise the cost. I was trying to get longer hours instead of a discount, but that's not gonna fly. I'll dig deeper. How many are interested in an extended day?

I would be interested in starting at sunrise, but don't necessarily need to go all the way to sunset.

I'd rather start at 8:30 and do Sunset - Particularly on the southern part. I have been down there at that time and it's pretty spectacular. Of course Sunrise downtown is not to be sneezed at.

Gee, maybe I need to do both days. The North part is intersting to me too.
Would we meet both days at the Sepulveda Basin?

anyway, im more interested in original compositions more than anything.... maybe we can leave various boxes of free paint around in the area for the local artists to use just prior to our arrival.. ( David your in charge of that...)
