The adventures of BAXTER DANBOARD!!!

Hi everyone. This is my first post on this big board and I figured I'd start out with my favorite set of pictures to date. The story behind this set is this: I saw some pictures on flickr that featured this small action figure called "Danboard". And I knew I had to have one:lust. So I went to Comic Con here in San Diego and bought one, name him Baxter Danboard, and stuck him in front of a camera:ivar. I've got about 25 pics of him so far. But I'll start from the beginning. I hope you'll agree they get better with time.
I'm pretty resiliant and very interested in getting better at photography. Comments and Critiques welcome. I've only been shooting off the little green automatic box since December 08.

Nice series! #2 literally made me laugh.

I was thinking about doing something very similar to this a few days ago, but I haven't figured out who my character will be.

Lots of fun across the board. I liked the lighting and shadow in the one with the plant most of all.

Why thank you for the warm welcome everyone. As promised here's the next round of images.

Baxter decided to brush up on his photography to prepare for his new Mini Danboard friend I just ordered today. He's pretty excited to get a playmate.

Baxter to Ent: I'm a manga character NOT a hobbit.
Ent to Baxter: Is that like an orc?

These are all shot with the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 prime. I love that little lens. My lighting for the shots is mostly just natural light. But I've made use of a desk lamp and a floor lamp on some of them since I don't have a real flash...

Jumping ahead here are two from tonight. Baxter was around this afternoon while I was painting my living room. He said he wanted to help so he scurried to the top of the ladder for a better vantage point.

    Pant, Pant, Pant...here I come...pant.
    3832373155_55abb517d1.jpg

In the end all he was good for was pointing out the fact that I dripped on my carpet. After the fact of course.

They look pro to me. Not so easy to "see" creatively but you certainly
make it look easy in this set. wings.gifIf you keep at it at this level or better
I'm certain you'll earn a star on the walk of fame. Very much looking
forward to seeing more cool pics from your efforts.

    Also, welcome to Dgrin. :D

    Jessy,
You really should write a book for children with Baxter. It looks like you have some good ideas already and the pictures are just great. I am sure many children would love to read "The adventures of Baxter". Most of you shots are great, and you seem to bring the little guy to life. I really enjoyed the series and look forward to seeing more of them.

Thank you so much. To clarify, I'm not on the green box anymore :). I'm shooting mostly aperture priority or manual now. But I did just learn to get off the box in December.

Thanks! Its always a challenge to find more situations for him. But I'm working on it.

Kelly, Thank you. You're not the first to suggest a book. But I wouldn't even know where to start with something like that. I assume that since this is a character it would be subject to copyright laws just like a batman figurine would be. I run my own little marketing company and have never aspired to make money in photography so I don't see myself spending much time on researching publishers :). Although it would be fun....

    That was a hard climb

    It made me sweat
    3809319883_a1b6c8f7c7_o.jpg

Baxter likes different music than me, so when I have my stereo blasting, he rocks out to my iphone.
    3821803875_321dfa68f2_o.jpg

Baxter had a dream about flying through Lindt White Chocolate candies. They are undoubtedly his favorite.

(This was the most in depth setup to date. Baxter is actually suspended and so are the candies. Set up can be seen here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/creativesoup/3825612408/)
    3822899190_9043b078ab_o.jpg

Raining Chocolate from Heaven- This is the part of the dream where it started to rain luscious chocolate all around Baxter.
    3826283764_5849c03eab_o.jpg

And this brings you up to date with all the Baxter shots to date. The chocolate shots are the ones I'm most proud of. Most of the shots were "set up" and not just shot on the fly, but this was the most thought about.

    Jessy,

Register your images with the US Copyright Office and pitch Baxter to Nickeloden. You can upload an entire batch of pics to the ECO site for $35.00.

I suspect this is good advise and might be better done today than tomorrow. You have a very appealing little character here.
