Having problems accessing some Smugmug sites here too. Either getting very, very, very long response times or getting a page that says "Internal Error".
We are down. The guys are on it and investigating. Hopefully be back online as soon as possible. Keep an eye on the status blog for updates. http://smugmug.wordpress.com/ There is nothing posted yet. But we should update it when information is available.

I'm sure it's just a slightly extended downtime because they are rolling out coupons. roflrofl
Ok. Now it's Thursday morning. Let's get it back up guys.
Down! Curses ! Bad Timing for me. Wish I could get notifications of down and back up somehow so I wouldn't have to go hunting.... but it's nice to be able to share confirmations here.
Smugmug is down an awful lot for the price that we pay for the service.... I have really got to get started looking elsewhere. Someplace around the same price, and has coupons, and packages, memorymates, buttons etc!

I am actually looking at the Exposure Manager site right now - they have coupons, and packages, and self-fulfillment.
And I thought it was my internet connection... ouch
Here I thought it was my internet connection because it's been coming and going with the storm... been hitting refresh for the last half hour and for once (okay more than that) it's not dishnetworks fault...
Docwalker - Can you relay that this has to stop!! This can't continue the way it's going. I want you to relay our sentiments to the CEO. I also want the weekly outages over with. I think I speak for a ton of PRO users when I say these things. I pay almost $150 a year and can't see why every time I need Smugmug it's down??

I've had my Smuggy account for a year now and it's been very stable. This week though I've encountered two downtimes... both times the Smug Techs were on top of it and got things fixed.
People bombard the forums asking the team at SmugMug to give them tons of improvements... they complain about how long it takes to get them. Then when the team works on getting things done and the site goes down they complain even more. No site is perfect no matter how much you pay for it. Sites got down, power outages happen, it's life.
If you want bright and shiny things then you have to sit through all the polishing that's needed to produce a gem. Smug is definitely a gem worth waiting for.
10/8/09 Site Issue

A critical part of our infrastructure failed this morning and its backup is having issues as well. Our engineers are looking into it and will restore service as quickly as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.
More downtime Why doesn't this happen when I am not trying to fulfill or take orders? This really hurts the wallet folks. It seems to be getting pretty frequent now. This is starting to make it hard to run a business (not that it's easy to begin with).
Betz I agree, I am a SmugMug customer in addition to working for SmugMug. I host my photography on SmugMug and would not even consider moving it to another site. I would not be working here if I did not fully believe in and love SmugMug.
The weekly downtimes are part of the enhancements of the site. We have to take the site down to roll out new features or make changes in preparation for the new features. I think the guys do a great job of keeping them to a minimum.
I also run networks and apps for other organizations. So I know exactly what the SmugMug ops guys go through when the site goes down. They don't always stop to say why things are broke because they often don't know yet. I would much rather they spend their time getting it fixed. You know the site is down because... well its down... They really don't know when it will be back up until the problem is fixed. Stopping to update the status blog takes them away from doing that. I would prefer they continue working on the problem. Normally Andy is online to help post updates. But he is away this week.
As for letting the CEO know your feelings, I will pass them along. He is active on the forums and reads a lot of your posts.
What pisses me off is you'd think they have a REDIRECT Server that at LEAST takes you to a "Site is down, check back later" PAGE so that my CLIENTS don't think I've given them a wrong URL and they never return. Last time this happened after a GAME when I told clients pics would be up at a certain time and what do you know, site was down for a while.

Ok. Now it's Thursday morning. Let's get it back up guys.
I'm in Japan, this isn't even a Friday (regular BS downtime) where I'm at and it's crazy.
Why oh why all year all the down time?? Can we please have some kind of redundancy in the pipeline? Everytime I need SMUGMUG it's down...
EVERYTIME I try Flickr it's not down...
I LOVE SMUGMUG but this is a really trying year for me with all this downtime.
Really, you can make some kind of redundant, fall over server arrangement, especially since I pay the pro price.
At the very least test these in a good environment before rolling out.
For us International customers this sucks.

I'm sure they'll update the blog when they can. That's how I've always gotten info regarding down times and planned maintenance nights.
