Yeah, though if the original is sorted manually you could probably keep the arrangements straight. You would have strange looking captions in the original galleries.

Nah, too kludgy and laborious to maintain. rolleyes1.gif
It is laborious, but for the bird gallery I'm using it on it actually works quite nicely as the birds here are numbered according to families on the official list. It probably does look a bit funny in the original gallery.

That sounds like a reasonable use. You're lucky.

But as a general method, it reminds me of programming in the 80s--line numbers and all that. It is boring at first and a real PITA when you want to reorganize. I think I'll wait for something more 21st century mwink.gif.

From the webdev tool, it looks like the message is not a separate element, only a div within #lightBoxCaption. So I guess that means it can't be removed with CSS, and would require some scripting...

It looks to me like this CSS would work to hide it in the lightbox:

    #lightBoxCaption div {display:none;}

As I asked before, please include a link to your specific page if you want help because your gallery style or theme can sometimes impact the proper CSS.

Bingo! Thanks, John, for solving that issue so quickly -- and for teaching me something new about CSS.

Are the smart gallery Match Rules working correctly?

Maybe I'm confused, but the Any or All ("toggle to match Any or All of your Rules") function seems to be backwards, at least in the case of an Include/Exclude pair I tried. I interpreted them in Boolean terms, with All representing the intersection, and Any representing the union. For example: To (1) Include photos taken between date X and Y but (2) Exclude those in a particular gallery, I expected to need an All match, but Any is what worked.

P.S. Note the "Exlcude" typo in the first drop-down box.

FYI... I emailed the heroes and they agree there's a problem there. Programmers are on it.

If they are in the same gallery just go to the Many Photos section of the tools. Hope that helps. More info at http://www.smugmug.com/help/collecting-photos

Filtering for a single day vs. a date range?
    This is EXCELLENT. Thanks.

I'm having a difficult time getting the DATE to work as I would expect it though.

I want to filter for images on a given DAY. If I set "From" and "To" to the same date, the filter is ignored (all images with the keywords listed are returned regardless of date). If I set the "From" to the day before, the filter works.

Sorry but you cannot collect entire Galleries like that. You can only collect images into Galleries.

for regular visitors do they have to do anything like provide an email to be able to collect photos?
If not is this planned? I would like to know who is collecting my photos, so I could possibly send them coupons or other info.

If I understand this right, I think only Smugmug customers can collect photos and they do so through their Smugmug login.

John is correct. Only existing SmugMug customers can collect your images to their SmugMug site. At this time you cannot see who is collecting your images. Check out the help page for more details on how collected images work: http://www.smugmug.com/help/collecting-photos.

I collected a few images to a test gallery just to see how this new system works. When I was finished, I wanted to remove the collected images from the gallery. I was able to use the "remove" button to do this, but I had to do it one image at a time. Can you put a "remove" button in the "many photos" section so we can remove collected images in batches?

Is this a display glitch: I click the "collect this photo" button and get the "collect photo" dialogue box. When I click on the "Pick a gallery" box, the names of the galleries do not appear in the drop-down box until I mouse over them. Could this be related to the theme chosen for the gallery? This happens with the theme I use for my public galleries, but not with the theme I use for private galleries.

Use 'delete' in the many photos option.

It happens on any one of my public galleries, which use the Spoonman theme.

I've attached a screenshot. The gallery names only appear when I mouse over them.

I thought if you use the delete button, it deletes not only the collected image but the original one as well. I don't want to do that. I only want to get rid of the collected images in the secondary gallery and leave the original images in the original gallery intact.

Yep, you're right. You want to use only Remove to kill the virtual copy and currently we don't have a bulk way to do this. I'll send up a feature request for this.

You also might want to make your voice heard on UserVoice for better traction. Thanks for letting us know this is important to you!

    Today we released Smart Galleries
Until today, your galleries could only contain actual photos and videos that you uploaded. Now they can also display virtual copies so that one photo can be displayed in many locations.

This was also the #1 request on our feature request forum.
And one of mine, as well as a basic feature I expect of any photo site. Thanks for finally getting this done ... looking forward to trying it out.

I'm surprised the name is "Smart" instead of "Virtual" Galleries. "Virtual" is a lot more intuitive, IMHO. Almost ignored the "Smart" announcement because I didn't make the connection at first.

    STOP the presses!

One of our engineers got back to me and set me straight!

By using 'Tools>Many Photos: Delete' on a gallery that contains both collected images and/or original images, you'll get a divided screen with instructions for each. Deleting virtual copies from here will not harm your originals. Here's what it looks like:

I hope this helps and sorry for the misinformation initially!

Thanks for updating the information. This is good news. I was already pretty frustrated by having to copy images one at a time in order to transfer them to different galleries, so this solves one of my major issues.

    Popular Photos, from Multiple Galleries
I would like to create a "Best-of" gallery from many sub-galleries. Using the Smart rules, I seem to only be able to do a popular from all of my photos or from one individual gallery. Is there a way to create a rule to pick all popular photos from a category, or set of gallery/sub-categories?

An email to support gave me the instructions for site-wide, or individual galleries, and recommended that I ask here to see if someone else had more success.

This is a cool functionality and very well implemented. clap.gif

have managed to quickly pull a few key photos from multiple travel galleries and made a slideshow to create a travel homepage.

    Really exited with this functionality.wings.gif

If you're the one picking the best photos, you can do like I did which is to make up a keyword to flag your best photos, then make a gallery based on that keyword.

I am relying on other people to do the voting using the up/down thumbs. I am already using keywords for another set of galleries.
