Frank, remember I (and Nick, I think) said it can take a day for re-indexing of keywords. Keywords are a site-wide thing-- they aren't just showing on your own site. Also, they are often searchable through search engines (if your gallery is public & Google-able). I've seen it take longer than a day, actually. It's been that way as long as I can remember.
I'm having the same problem as Frank, I deleted some keywords and the photos still show up in the Smart Gallery even after refreshing. I'll wait till tomorrow to see if the photos disappear otherwise I'll do what Frank did and delete the gallery and recreate it.

I will experiment with this - when I have more time.
However, when I added the keyword to my photos (special one for Smart Gallery Purposes) it worked immediately. It's only the deletion of keywords that seems to take a long time.
Default for collected gallery
I really like this feature, thanks!
When collecting photos from many galleries to the same gallery, I have to navigate/select that gallery each time. It would be really handy if there were a simple way to collect to the most recently collected-to gallery. Perhaps if the window defaulted to the most recently selected gallery? Collecting would be a simple two-click operation.
Keep the box ticked for selected gallery
Morning, a small request
I have many galleries and from some of then I will pull a few photos and place in a Smart Gallery.
If that little box saying "Don't display this window as I collect more from this gallery" culd stay ticked a bit longer ... it would help me very very much. I would need it to stay alive also when moving between galleries.

Smart Gallery Slideshow link doesn't work
I created a Smart Gallery of all my Headlands Dunes galleries and called it Headlands Dunes Photo Collection, then I clicked the share button to get a link, then I copied the Slide show link, but it doesn't seem to work

Andy your link worked but the link I get when I use the share button doesn't I notice the AlbumID I get is the same as yours but the AlbumKey it gives me is different???
Your key is tyVJB and the one it gives me is AlbumKey=yPYoj ???? not sure why you are getting the correct link and I'm not?

So, yeah- you'd make a new gallery (call it say, My Bird Collection) - then go to your bird galleries, and start clicking the collect photo icon on the photos you want to go to the new collection gallery. That's another way to collect.
Questions about Smart Galleries
I was going to start experimenting with these a little but before I go down a rabbit trail, a couple of questions:
Can these be applied retroactively to already existing photos (pre Jan 26, 2010) in galleries? This sentence and other context is why I ask:
Make your galleries Smart by specifying Rules that they'll follow to populate them. When you add new photos to your site, the Rules still apply so that newly uploaded photos can display in multiple galleries without you copying, moving, or uploading them again.
Do these rules also apply to Gallery Keywords? Would the entire gallery be selected?
Is there an easy way to apply to multiple galleries at once for enabling? I tried just selecting multiple in the control panel using Mac Safari 4.0.4 64bit and it was not an option.

Can I keep the photos in separate galleries?
In my web page www.poggiware.smugmug.com I created a category called Chronological-View and under this category I created a sub-category called "Year 2007". You will notice that I have my photos groupped in 4 major categories (Home Events, Vacation, Family Contribution, and Videos). My goal is to be able to have galleries from a specific year groupped in a new sub-category for each year
I would like a sub-category to contain multiple virtual galleries that corresponds to the year. I do not want to collect all albuns and photos in a single album but instead keep multiple virtual galleries withn my new sub-category
Of course I can create one virtual gallery for each gallery but I would like to take advantage of the sub-category to do this work. Basically I would like to have the option to cutomize at a sub-category level in a similar way as it is possible for in a Virtual Gallery. This would allow me to have galleries from different sub-categories to be shown in a new sub-category. A classical example is to be able to show all galleries from different sub-categories that were created in 2009 in a new sub-category Year 2009 Galleries.
Another way of seeing this feature is to allow a gallery to be assigned to multiple category/sub-category instead of only mapping it to a single category/sub-category.
This may also help to avoid having too many photos in a single virtual gallery and instead have multiple virtual-galleries
I see the arrange tools are not available in these virtual galleries. How are the pics sorted - it seems to be random??
Hi,
The Arrange feature in the Tools button does not work in Smart Galleries; however, you can use auto sort found in the gallery settings under Look & Feel. By default, newly collected photos will always show up at the end.

Thanks for responding Barb, but the ordering seems to be totally random. This was the last pic I loaded and it's in the middle. I'll fiddle with the captions and try arrange by caption (btw, will changing the caption change it in the original gallery too?).

Yes, changing the caption on an image in a smart gallery will change the original image caption.
I'll have to get back to you on the sort order when I have a definitive answer

Don't just wait til tomorrow. Wait 24 hours at least. Re-doing it would only delay the process, wouldn't it?

There was an error with the auto-sorting earlier today. Andy said it'd be fixed today. But it looks like it still exists. My Collection gallery is sort-of sorted, but it goes in and out of being sorted and then not being sorted (ie my sorting is done by "Date Taken" (descending) and I get a random period of sorted by date taken, then it goes to a photo from 2007, and then back to photos from 2009, etc. Strange, huh?! Hopefully the engineers will get it fixed
See Filenames on Collect Photos page
I'd like to see filenames listed under the thumbnails when making selections on the "Collect Photos" page. I can see filenames if I hover over the thumbnail, but it's painful (paticularly with the sort order bug right now) to find specific images I wanted to collect.
Rules
I like the new features! However, I think having a rule to include certain categories would be very useful. Right now it will only let you include galleries as a rule.
Original photo link
Collections will really help me in avoiding the upload of images multiple times and no doubt help Smugmug save on storage at the same time. The new feature is fantastic
The one question I do have however is whether there is a way to disable the "See photo in original gallery" link?
sure but remember - the collected photos will respect the settings from their original gallery.
The correct answer to this would have been "no", or at least "no" with a qualification... because my question was whether photos in a Smart Gallery could be made to match one another in display parameters, such as thumbs and watermarking. You can't make them match. They go by what their originals are. Just so that other people don't get unduly confused as well: So far, you can't change the watermarking or thumbs display settings in a Smart Gallery or a collection without changing the original. Yes, this is a bummer. This feature was so exciting, but this tarnishes the shine a lot for me. My post #50 never got any answers, but I tried making another gallery that was not keyword-based this time, and filled it with "Collected photos" to figure out this stuff. It's not a Smart Gallery. It's just a collection. Here it is: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Nature/Backlit-Collection/11073144_B5e3V#144748508_hHW3P
So far, I can't find any way to arrange at all either. I see other people mentioning using an arrange tool, but none of my arrange tools work in the gallery of "Collected photos" mentioned above, even though at one point it sounded like it was fixed. I tried "arrange" with the checkbox just below the preview photo. I tried bulk arranging, and every other method. Every time, I get the message that "this gallery does not contain any photos that can be arranged". From the most recent posts, this seems to be true now for some others. What I'm confused about is: is this a bug, or is this just the way it is? Also, it's not because of any certain gallery settings I have, right?
Well, I'll hope that all these things will be addressed so that I can get re-excited about this feature. I also agree with people who said being able to caption differently in a virtual gallery & not change the originals would surely be helpful. Thank you!
I also agree with people who said being able to caption differently in a virtual gallery & not change the originals would surely be helpful. Thank you!
I feel that you (and the other people) misunderstand the difference between a "virtual copy" and a "true copy". If you make a "true copy", then you get a brand new image ID, and its own separate caption, thumbnail etc. However, if you make a "virtual copy", then you share the image ID between two different galleries. This means that each gallery with share captions, thumbnails etc.
Your request would be satisfied by a simple "copy to gallery" feature. This is completely separate from the "virtual gallery" feature that has been requested many times in the past, and implemented in this release.
Personally, I'm extremely happy with the new feature. I've lost track of the number of times that I've had to use keyword galleries on my sites, and then had difficulty integrating the keyword galleries into categories. This new feature should make this a lot simpler.
Don't just wait til tomorrow. Wait 24 hours at least. Re-doing it would only delay the process, wouldn't it?
Actually no - if you delete and recreate the smart gallery (using the same rule(s) as before) it's created immediately with the correct images (i.e. only the ones which meet the rule(s)).
Right-Click Protection
I saw this question asked on the release notes page but I can't find an answer to it yet. I was wondering, when you collect a photo from someone's gallery that has right-click protection turned on, will the right-click protection follow the photo to the new gallery where the photo is collected? Know what I mean? Say a basic subscriber with no right-click privileges collects a pro user's photo that DOES have right-click protection enabled. When you view that photo in the basic subscriber's gallery where they added the collected photo, is the right-click protection still there or is it now gone? I realize right-click protection isn't a sure way to prevent people from stealing, but it's better than nothing.

I'm not sure why you're getting a different key when you use my share button????

This is what I'm seeing on my site.
In a 'smart' gallery using the share button the link for the pop-up slide how is not working. ( correct ? ), white page only.
Looks to be the share link is using the AlbumID from the gallery where the original image is located and the AlbumKey of the 'smart' gallery.
I hope this displays it a little better for all to see:
Yes all I get is a white page instead of the slideshow, thanks for looking into this!
