After the rock garden we headed back to the quarry, so Kevin's girlfriend, Steph, could drive.
A little under carriage washing.....well, axle washing.
Will got an under carriage wash....and almost an engine flush.
We cut through a section of the "dunes" on the way too.
I took Kevin to climb I had seen some of the other IndyORV guys do....you know he couldn't be out done, and couldn't say no.
Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
Time to head back into the quarry.
The step up is always popular.
Steph got into the action too.
Steph hitting the big rocks.
Kevin decided Steph had drove enough, and headed to Purgatory.
Kevin's clutch rod broke just as he was getting ready to load up.
This was the best wheeling trip I've had in a long, long time. We drove some trails I had never drove and climbed some things I had never climbed. On the down side I wasn't able to climb a few things, one I had climbed before. I got hung up on my turtle skid once too. 33's probably would have prevented that....so that's what I'll be getting.
So we went up the mountain again
2012 October. Autumn in the himalayas. And very very cold, upto -10 at night.
Long trails, even at 10-15kmph you will kill suspension
A rocky region at 13700 feet
Road to the lake of the moon. We stopped here because 2 kms way we could see another vehicle coming. This is the only place where two vehicles can pass. rest of the road is as wide as the vehicle, with a very very very long drop way down
And then, after a few days its time for 17500 feet
No snow means easy peasy
And then its back to a lowly 10000 feet, playing in sand dunes on a moon lit night
A few days later, we are again above 17000 feet
The steep climb up has the diesel panting for breath, we give a rest.
After a pass you go down, but we are mistaken, after this mountain pass you go higher. On a road which is a collection of stones. I stop to enjoy the scenery and inspect the continentals
Still at 17000+
Almost at 18000, the road ends
An adventurous army 6 wheeled monster has made a track on the mountainside. But to reach there, we have to take a U turn, on this road
the edges will crumble under the weight, so its 500 yards reverse gear, to the switchback
Finally almost 18000 feet! Our high point of the day yay!
But no rest for the wicked
The shovel is too small to get the stones out of the way. So my wife walks down to a BRO camp to ask for a bigger shovel.
Guess what comes!
And then its tarmac
We are 30kms from our destination. Its dark, we have not crossed a single vehicle for over 40kms, and steam erupts from the engine bay. A hose pipe has gone bust, and coolant spray is all over.
We drive fast in 5th gear to get to our destination, and the road building engineers fix our engine next day.
But thats another story!
To answer your question, no, I guess I don't understand what this thread is doing in the "Sports" forum or why it is so popular while photos of actual sports go largely undiscussed. Flame on, I won't respond further.

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.

I guess I originally started it here because wheeling often involves action shots, which relates to sports photography, and wheeling also involves racing, which is a sport.
And the reason it's so popular is, well.....it's a jeep thing, you won't understand.
Molina is a fundraiser for Cal4Wheel. There's some wheeling but mostly, playing in the rock gardens and tours of the park are what the weekend is about.
And mud.
And fun.
Jeeps.

And because it's a participatory thing.

I had a great time in Moab, five days of wheeling, 145 miles off road, and I drove the jeep home in one piece. I have so many photos and vids to go through.

My people are there later this week. I'm having thoughts
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
Upgrades. Also picked up my sliders today. Those go on tomorrow...

The snow we ran into near the Eisenhower tunnel....it was actually snowing!
I'm in Utah!
Ok, we were in Utah.
Me....taken by Kevin.
Kevin....taken by me.
Brian....we were on Dome Plateau.
Top Of The World
Posing on Fins-N-Things
Kevin's custom built (by himself) TJ with a 4BT Cummins Turbo Diesel rolling on 40's.
Having the time of our lives.
On Poison Spider Mesa
Heading back down to town.
Hell's Gate
Lifting a wheel on Hell's Gate....but no roll.
Kevin climbing out of Micky's Hot Tub.
Looking up Escalator on Hell's Revenge....we have video, but no pics of us doing it.
At the top of Moab Rim.
Watching the full moon rise, from our KOA cabin.
We did 10 of the difficult trails:
Top of The World
Fins-N-Things
Poison Spider
Golden Spike
Gold Bar Rim
Hell's Revenge
Cliff Hanger
Moab Rim
Kane Creek Canyon
Strike Ravine
We also did Baby Lion's Back and Dome Plateau.
Kevin did Potato Salad Hill and we visited Area BFE, where I climbed a few of the smaller challenges, but Kevin took on some big ones, such as Helldorado and Miner Threat.
In all we covered 145 off road miles in 5 days, with no breakage, other than Kevin's front suck down winch line. I banged up some under armor a bit, bu that's what it's for.
I drove out and back, for a total of 3,311 miles.....and this is the second time I've done that, so I'm pretty proud of my Jeep.
Comments
We made our way down the creek to the big rock.
Kevin tried to climb the big ledge.
The ledge won....this time, I'm pretty sure he'll kill it when the rear ARB is working.
Up......
....and over.
Instead of going through the tubes, I found a couple of more obstacles for Kevin to try.....pay attention Doug. lol.
More power!
He did another one, but it was so "easy" we made him do it backwards....it's on video.
We made our way back along the quarry edge, through Purgatory and down by the quarry pond, where some big rocks were just looking for a thumping.
Apparently if your Jeep can idle up a big rock, it's something to brag about.....whatever.
Take that Prius owners.
I've seen a Jeep or two break here....but not Jeffery.
After that we went back to the lot for lunch, then it was time for Orange Trail.
Half way through Orange Kevin found a place to play.
After some play time we continued on to the rock garden section, that runs along the easy exit road.
Will on the rocks.
My Jeep.

The rest of the pics I took....there are a few.
It was a blast. In fact I had so much fun I went out and bought new tires....
Goodyear DuraTrac 305/70R16's.
No rubbing.
Can't wait to get out on the trails and try them out.....hopefully on Good Friday.
Now that's funny.
Found a Kodak Picture Spot while wheeling today.

Fast is ok, but I like to take in the sights along the way.
Agreed. But washboards and sliding a heavy truck don't mix very well. I have to school my buddy on panning shots too.
