Nicely done for your first time!! A couple of things for the next time. Watch the pilons (sp?) they can really mess up a good shot! They are blurred but still in the shot in a few of yours. Keep praciticing panning! My first few attempts didnt look this good! Lastly, Spend some time in PS and adjust that last shot, tone it down a little and print it - print it big! That is gonna sell your services for you! Only problem will be people asking why they dont look that good!!!!! Oh, i am sure people are going to make comments about the shots of riders going away from you - I will make a positive one! Most people would skip these! Riders ALWAYS want to see the techincal shots to improve on!
Long day? Possibly not as easy as you thought - or to stay focused for the whole day? Overall, i think you did great! You may not admit it to us all here, but after you get what ever sales are coming from this - sit back and compare the time/effort and ask yourself - was it worth it?

Phew, too much coffee! Sorry for the long post!!
Thanks!!! I appreciate the positive comments! It was very tough holding that camera all weekend. Big shout out to the Cotton Carrier system though!!! haha It was DANGEROUSLY hot and humid all weekend and it made it a rough shoot. I'll be happy when it's cooler out!
As a racer myself, I can say that we LOVE the shots going away from the camera. Especially if it's a "knee down" shot. Unique angles are great for us and we get tired of the same old stuff. So far though, everyone is ecstatic over thier pics! I DO have so much to learn but the D300S is a great camera to learn on IMO. I haven't felt overwhelmed with it one bit.
Was it worth it? Not sure yet BUT I have some good ideas about saving me time in the future and selling ALL of the shots that I take. Basically, I will know who is going to buy and who isn't and I will focus only on those that want pics.... and some others that are probable. I don't mind taking the shots BUT I don't want to deal with the uploads and sorting of those who won't buy. I'm gonna put a good system in place and work closely with the club/track in order to execute it. Anyway, thanks again. I appreciate all comments from everyone.... good and bad. It definitely helps me learn!
PS Yeah, I shot in vivid and some could use some toning down. I'll be processing pics and uploading nonstop for weeks! haha
Here's another pan of my buddy. He's happy with the pics! I'll post a ton more later too.
You are missing my point completely, but here is one anyway.
Always remember, in photography, good is a relative term. What is good to one may be bad to another.
If you and your clients are happy with the image, thats all that matters.
I am totally with everyone that blurry tires are nice to have. My point is, for me its not crucial, and can easily be added later in post.
It is quite sharp, and I do admire your work, especially the post processing in addition to the composition, but that is one of the very, very few shots of yours that does not do much for me. But as you say, its a very subjective thing. For you, sharpness is everything. For me, I'm willing to trade some sharpness, and this shot is a good example:
Here's some more images from my shoot. I didn't number them but if you guys want to critique... you can. Just use bike number. I learned that the D300S likes to slightly overexpose. I didn't notice this until after I reviewed the images on a PC screen. I learned a lot from this shoot and I am anxious for the next event. I am hoping to improve in many areas!! All in all, it was a lot of fun and most people seem to be very happy with their images! Thanks everyone for all your help!!! I'm really glad I came across this site.
As for the over exposure, it's standard to underexpose by 1/3 or 1/7 when shooting in bright sunlight. It's not the camera's fault.
Btw, most of the photos are soft. Which is surprising, considering the shutter speeds you used.
Panning at high speeds takes practice.
What's lame? I didn't ask for any help. Some people like to critique and that's why i said use bike numbers...... if the wanted to!! I said that FOR THEM.
...... and I used different shutter speeds all weekend. It was one big experiment. I also said I LEARNED that the D300S likes to overexpose.... and not just from the photos but from other D300S owners. I don't see where I blamed the camera? The fact that you can't follow along with ANY part of my post is what's lame.
..... and your panning shots aren't any better than many of what I took.
It's simple internet protocol. When posting multiple images, they should be numbered.
I was just sharing them.... and not for critiquing.... as I already know what's wrong with them. I ONLY suggested using bike numbers if anyone, by chance, wished to critique them. To have someone call that lame and then try to show off their own images that are no better than many of my shots..... is in itself..... LAME. Besides, when only a few pictures are posted.... it's pretty easy to tell which ones are 1,2,3, or 4! Anyway, he just grouped them as "most" and called them soft. He didn't even need numbers!

Kinda looks like Fontana looking south?
It's a local track here in the midwest. My home track.
I'm sorry, but that is lame when asking for help.

Nipprdog, nice shots
The subject is sharp, the exposures are spot on and the backgrounds are clean and help to make the subject pop.
Thank you, sir. Btw, congrats on your new ride. I wish you good times on it.
