First thing I noticed with Simple uploader. Uploading a video the progress
stopped half way across. After waiting many minutes I paused and restarted.
Still no action. Try again couple times, nothing, so I deleted it.
Duh, the video appeared in the gallery.
To make maters worst the HTML loader shows no progress at all, just a
spinning arrow. Also it shows "Transferring data from pixel.quantserve.com" at
the bottom, forever, doesn't go away.
I actually liked the previous version better. I'm using Safari, so that might be part of my problem; but just in terms of interface, I liked seeing the progress of each image uploading. Also liked seeing the progress at the bottom that showed total images and how many have been uploaded. Also liked having the timer at the bottom. This uploader does not give me much information on the status of the upload. I like information. Again, I am using Safari, but this uploader seems to stall a lot.

I see no difference in speed between the two.
Dragged 3 7D videos into HTML loader. After waiting quite a while with
no progress showing just spinning thingies all three said.
upload problem: Info: upload 'unknown file type. Would you like a SmugVault?' using PUT to http://upload.smugmug.com/photos/xmlrawadd.mg with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101026 Firefox/3.6.12 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Why the long wait, doesn't it know the file type immediately?
It looks like the 3 were loading simultaneously.
Dragged one in and after long wait got same error.
Dragged one of the failed videos into Simple uploader and (watching
progress ) it uploader ok.

It's not just safari... progress details, that is. I'm on FF and there's no progress meters of any kind anywhere. I completely agree-- that part needs improvement; hopefully the next version will have that stuff. That's why I mentioned it in Post #59. I haven't had stalling, but also haven't uploaded all that much.
I have not been impressed at all by the new uploader. Uploaders in general have been going backwards for me.
Seems they are being developed for very high speed connections without regards to those of us with high latency slower connections. The uploaders need more forgiveness for this. aka Satellite internet
I can get by sometimes on my old laptop running the original simple uploader.
My new desktop never works reliably might yield 10% on those going through.
Star Explorer, sendtosmugmu all operate the same way. They all used to work well on all my machines up until about 1-1-1/2 years ago. Then it has gone downhill.
If I take images to work with a very clean fast connection all works well.
It's not just safari... progress details, that is. I'm on FF and there's no progress meters of any kind anywhere.
They aren't in v1 of the HTML5 uploader - but we hope to add them very soon. For all, if you desire the progress meter, and the speed indicator, you can continue to use the Simple Uploader as you always have, just click the link, lower left corner of the uploader, and switch back
The uploaders need more forgiveness for this. aka Satellite internet
This has always been an issue with Satellite internet, I'm so sorry - there's always packet loss and we (and others) have a difficult time with the behind-the-scenes stuff in the uploader with this type of connection. I'm really sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now with regard to satellite internet connection

Andy, as I keep trying to tell you-- Simple Uploader's progress meters (or other ways of telling where you're at in the upload) are not working correctly and/or not visible right now!! (at least they were not as of 24 hrs. ago.) The line that used to tell me how many files had been uploaded used to say (for instance) "All files uploaded 24/24" or something close to that. The last time I uploaded using Simple, it only said 3/2.... which doesn't even make sense. And I'd uploaded maybe 20 give or take. As I said, I had to scroll through to find out what had uploaded. If all this has changed (and I'll check now), it's changed in the last 24 hrs.

Hi Anna Lisa, I suspect you are still using the HTML5 Uploader
Click the link to change, choose simple, and try again?
I just uploaded to a test gallery on your site with the Simple and here are the progress bars, speed info, file x of x, etc:
Andy, you didn't wait til the very end of the upload-- I think that's mostly what people were talking about.
Ok, just tried -- took barely 4 min. to upload 60 files (woohoo!) and yes, Andy-- this is definitely the Simple Uploader ( as evidenced by several facts: 1. I clicked on "try a different..." and chose Simple! 2. Simple's "Browse" button is at the top L, not bottom L 3. Simple gives your gallery's name at top... and that last part is the most obvious clue)
So here's what I was told at the very end of my upload this time (I waited a few moments to be sure) : Overall Progress: 62/61 Time Remaining: Uploads Pending
So with the "Overall Progress": perhaps the numbers are simply reversed? 61 files were chosen & all 61 showed up in my gallery. (I've now deleted 2, so there are 59) I don't know where the 62 comes from. With the "Time Remaining".... Ok, until Smug introduced the new HTML 5, the Simple Uploader always accurately said "Uploads Finished" or "None" or "0:00" or something that made sense. Now it always says "uploads pending" when it's finished. Now that I've sat & watched it, I will know that when it says that, it's finished! It also used to say something like: "Overall Progress: 61/61 Files Uploaded" on the left.
I mean... it's not like this is a big deal, because you can certainly easily figure out that your files are finished uploading. It just... needs a tweak or two, because something went a little goofy when the new one got introduced.
Not fond of new uploader (new_add.mg)
I liked the progress bars, the current speed, and the ETA of the old uploader. I like the fact that I could drop a whole folder onto the uploader.
I'm also using the simple uploader instead of the HTML5 one because the serial uploads go faster, at least for me. The HTML5 uploader uses 3 concurrent connections to upload three files at once, sharing the bandwidth between them. I've found that to be less efficient when doing several test runs (I'm not CPU bound and I use Comcast, so I get about 2 mbps upload).
I'm wondering if anyone else did some comparisons ?
Also the big "Done Uploading" button in both uploaders is sooo confusing... I always interpret it as "the upload is done" and I can close this window... but It's not the case as it's displayed at all times
I liked the progress bars, the current speed, and the ETA of the old uploader. I like the fact that I could drop a whole folder onto the uploader.
All these things are missing from the new one.
Yes, we hope to add them to the HTML5 uploader
In the meantime, you can continue to use the Simple Uploader that is blazing fast and has the extra features you like so much.
Thanks for the feedback! Once we implement the progress bar, the "Done Uploading" button will only appear once the uploading had been completed.
And it's the reverse problem from what I told you in Post #71 the Simple Uploader has. That one says: Time Remaining: Uploads Pending when the uploads are finished, which is rather confusing. Simple's interface definitely changed.
Even when the "Done Uploading" button gets fixed so that it appears when uploading is completed, it should have a change of language. First of all, "Done Uploading" just sounds like bad grammar to me. Secondly, we can't tell if it's a command from us to the window, or a statement from the window to us! How about "Upload Completed" or something unmistakable.
This has always been an issue with Satellite internet, I'm so sorry - there's always packet loss and we (and others) have a difficult time with the behind-the-scenes stuff in the uploader with this type of connection. My problem with it is each uploader has gotten worse.
Ok, forgive my lack of reading comprehension... I'm tired and a bit lazy today ... was it explained on this thread if anybody is having errors uploading photos to the new format in Firefox saying that the photos are the wrong format or too large to upload? Because that's exactly what I'm getting...

I noticed that the uploader got a bit of a facelift recently. It looks great, but there's no longer a visual signal to indicate that an upload has completed unless you scroll down to the bottom of the image list. The "DONE UPLOADING" button is there even before I start an upload, which is a little confusing.
I usually upload at least a few dozen images at a time, and I really liked the old "IDLE" message when an upload was complete. I'm writing this because I just accidentally canceled an upload by prematurely clicking over to the gallery AGAIN. (3rd time now.) Also, showing the count of how many images had been uploaded was a cool way to double-confirm that everything had finished uploading.

We're fixing some lingering issues - for now, Pez, click the link lower left corner and go back to the Simple.

Hi Ken, we're changing this in rev2 hopefully soon. In the meantime, you can click the link lower left in the uploader and switch back to the Simple Uploader if you like. Thanks for the feedback.

That button seems to be the only way to get back to the gallery, especially since there's no gallery title. I realize/hope that will change, but meanwhile.... as I said earlier, it would avoid a lot of confusion if the words on the button could be changed to "Back to Gallery". And yeah, I know we can all go to the Simple Uploader. I'm talking about avoiding confusion for the many people who will never make their way here & are wondering what's going on w/ that button.
New uploader problems
I came to upload some images and noticed the front end of the uploader seems changed. I also got four failures to upload and a couple saying images too big (they were about 12 mb). I've never had an image fail to upload and never been told an image is too big. Has there been a major change to the uploader (or file size?)
Hi Philip - you can simply switch back to the Simple Uploader you're used to using - link lower left in your uploader window. We'll be fixing up the HTML5 uploader asap.

Small files too large
Tried uploading either by browsing or dragging small .jpg files (e.g. 80kb)
Got message saying files too large
Can't post screencap as I can't upload it
(I had tried the OLD javascript simple uploader but the window for that didnt present properly so I gave up at that time , but now having tried again , see its working OK - the old uploader that is)

The new uploader happened to me today.
No progress bars? No time estimates?
I had one "Upload failed". Will it retry?
Progress bars will come soon in the HTML5 uploader. If you had a failure, please drop it in again.
You can always switch back to the Simple Uploader if you wish, link lower left in the uploader window.
