I don't understand why you have to keep logging in? I logged into my SmugMug site sometime this year and have stayed logged in since. Unless I'm checking my site on a public computer, I don't see why I would need to log out and log back in? sorry if I'm missing the point here, I'm genuinely curious?
When you go to your customization, Smugmug makes you log in again.

I always view my site in public view so I know if any surprises arise with all
the updates. :D Plus, logged in takes up too much realestate and I want to
    see what my visitors see.

I use multiple computers and multiple Internet connections. I also have my browsers delete all cookies/cache when they close/reboot, so the cookies are only good until I have to reboot.

Now if they'll just fix the "return to photo" when logging in/out instead of
returning to the first in gallery. This is a huge problem when doing a quick
caption or keyword edit on a photo many pages in.

This statement after logging out is NOT correct.
Take me to the page I was viewing.
Haven't seen any comments on this. headscratch.gif

I'm still getting a redirect sometimes that's clearing what I've typed. And, the redirect appears to be messing up my password manager too. All-in-all, this page which we cannot avoid has just gotten too tricked up for it's own good. I vote for nuking the stupid FB option which appears to be the source of the problem.

    I agree....

I have noticed now also that when I want to create a new gallery, I get redirected to the login-screen, and if I need to upload a video, I usually use "old faithful", I get redirected to the new log-in for switching uploaders.

I've run into a typing issue too. It's different than yours (I've described it in an earlier post), but it's still very annoying.

I just want my speedy login back--type, tab, type, tab, space, tab, enter, get to work. thumb.gif

Check the domain in the url each time you have to re-login. I have a hunch that it's using your custom one and then the smugmug one. I've seen some issues with the uploader and custom domains and filed a bug report.

Amen. I'm getting Facebook-itis. SmugMug would not be horribly uncool if you would have to use your SmugMug login to log onto SmugMug. mwink.gif

You guys have to look at this from a marketshare perspective. One of the quickest, most painless ways for any website that requires a login to grow is to allow fb logins. Even though I don't like it, I can see why SM wants it and allows it. And I really don't care as long as I get a speedy login screen back.

Are there specifics that are getting in the way of you doing so? Using Facebook is not a requirement, it's an option.

You're make absolutely no sense. I'm already logged into FB, why would I
want to log in again. Are you saying I can change my site by using the FB
log in and not Smugmug? If so, now I have to worry about someone stealing
    my FB id, stupid.

I'm assuming that people that aren't currently with SM can also login and immediately create an account, hence the marketing aspect of it. This is the way it works on a lot of other sites.

And fb login seems to be an option a lot of people want. I agree that fb has MAJOR security issues, but it's a quick and easy way to login for some. And apparently it's important enough that SM has taken the time to implement it.

    Sorry for being vague Andy.

It's an industry "us too"-phenomenon regarding Facebook, or social media in general, where eevery last thing that could possibly be plugged into Facebook - should be, by default.

And for me personally, until there's one unbiased way I can authenticate myself to all sites, I will rather authenticate myself to each site I use.

I don't mind that they offer it, but the implementation is downright messed up. I have never, ever logged in to my Smugmug account us FB and never ever plan to. Yet, the login page goes to FB, does some processing and then redirects to a new page and clears my typing in the login box. Smugmug said they cleared something and the problem seems to have disappeared for awhile and now it's back. The problem with their current implementation is that it's messed up. It shouldn't cost us time, page redirects and all that when we are never using it. Make it a dead link to login using FB rather than whatever they have now and then it won't make things worse when you're not using it. If you want to offer FB integration, that's fine - just make it a zero cost optional aspect of the interface. The quickest way to piss people off about FB integration is to add it in a way that's in our way when we DON'T want to use it and that's exactly what is happening now in the login dialog to me. I don't want it and it's in the way. Get it out of the way.

John, Scott has identified something weird going on with your FB permissions and our login. He's going to be in touch and we'll fix what's happening. You don't have to tell us again, we know that it's busted for about 20 of our customers, and we're trying to find out why. Stay tuned, thanks!

OK. Something tells me that if you know about 20 customers, there are probably a lot more you don't know about. Hope you figure out what's going on. I still stand by my comment that it should have been written in a way that it could not get in the way if a customer didn't want to use it.

John, honestly, when I've run into problems like this on other sites, I've just downloaded the source of the page and made my own local login for the site. I would do it in this case, but I never saved the source html of the old login screen. :cry I know you can probably do this until SM fixes it for you.

Now it's behaving even worse. Everytime I got to the login screen it checks the [X] Login with Facebook option automatically and I have to manually uncheck it. I HATE this stupid login screen. Smug, you really messed this one up. According to earlier posts, someone was supposed to contact me about fixing my account. Nobody has done so.

Scott will be in touch, John. There's something wrong with your FB permissions and SmugMug and he's going to help. It's not a user-base wide thing. We're chasing it down and he'll be in touch.
