We need a specific forum where each entry in the feedback forum is a separate thread.
Each thread would be a specific request from the feedback page.
Maybe sorted by votes.
Anyone can post to any thread for open discussion.
No one can add a thread. Only Andy or other representative.
This would provide an accessible noticeable area for discussion.
I think this is a very viable solution, but it doesn't do something that the feedback system does do--sort based on the top requests, aka votes. (At least I don't think vb can do this automatically)
You could setup a sub-forum, say somewhere under support here on dgrin. Then create a thread for each of the same feature requests on the feedback system. Then create a poll that is stickied at the top of the forum that has all the requests listed for voting. But all of this is a piecemeal solution that just mimics what the feedback system already does, and frankly, does quite well.
The lack of discussions on that system is simply due to traffic and lack of integration. If there was a way to show the discussions there here on dgrin (which may be possible with rss feeds since vb can accept these natively), then the community of people on dgrin will also pay more attention to what's on the feedback system.
And having a unified login would help with this too. One of the barriers to entry to the feedback system is that you have to have yet another login. I didn't register on that system until I had went there five times with something to say. A unified login would bind all these piecemeal systems together. Like if your SM login worked with all of them automatically--dgrin, feedback, wiki, etc. I know it's not the easiest thing to set up, but it's not that bad and will probably increase participation by at least 100%.

FYI, my Smugmug login does work on the feedback site. To use it, you have to know to choose OpenID every time as the login method, but it works.
Yep, I missed those release notes/news. It's why I've subscribed.
Those were four years ago too. It's not like it would be easy for someone who joined after that or subscribed to release notes after that or doesn't have a great memory or who doesn't even know what OpenID is to know that they could use that on the feedback site. It is a pretty hidden feature.

I'm sorry, I was just trying to be helpful to Samir, and giving him links to posts that describe what SmugMug does with OpenID.

Yep, bringing back one of the other topics in this thread about the scattered nature of all the SM info. I've been here for five years now and just learned today about this feature.

I don't think he was taking offense, but was using this case as a good example to reinforce the point of SM information being too scattered. Thank you for the links Andy!

No problem Andy. I was trying to make a different point about how hard it is for customers to now about this kind of stuff. How would a customer who joined today know anything about OpenID and how they could use it on the feedback site?

No doubt, we have a ton of info. But then again, so do plenty of companies. Easy google search leads to the same pages I linked to Samir

Ahhahaha! And here is a real-life example: I joined years ago, and had no idea we could use OpenID on the feedback site. Nor do I have even one single clue what OpenID is. Yes, dear SmugMug-- please enlighten us. Or, Ok, guess I can go Google it. Yes, the widely-scattered info. around here is enough to make grown women cry sometimes. :cry
I know I was quite frustrated when I first joined the Feedback Forum (another problem-- that site goes by at least 3 different names around here, so really how's anyone supposed to remember where/what/how it is?) but I digress... so yeah, when I first joined it, I had no clue which name I was inputting was gonna become my visible-to-all username on there. No indication was given. (sometimes, usernames are public, & sometimes not) I would have put something other than my whole entire name, as now anytime I post there it shows up in Google under my name. Yuck. So... that's why I'm curious about what OpenID is, etc. And is there some way to trade in my Feedback Forum name for something less-obviously-me?
but I'll see about adding openID stuff to our help pages.
If you had a clue that you should even Google anything, much less Google for openID and Smugmug. Of course, the real solution to this issue would be to customize a "Smugmug login" option into the feedback forum (which transparently uses OpenID for a Smugmug login) so users still don't have to know anything about OpenID and don't have to create a new account/pwd.

Yes. Make it as seamless as the bit.ly implementation.

When you first go to the feedback site, you can just plug in your SmugMug email address, and then say "give me a new password" and one will be emailed to you - click that link and voila, you're logged in with your SmugMug credentials.
But I guess I need to get in there and figure out how to customize it better, and make that fact more obvious - thanks for pointing this out!

Yes! And then do this for every SM resource--wiki, blog, dgrin, etc. A unified login for everything in the SM world.
Did you read my post just above? We have Single Signon for our feedback site. I just have to see if we can make it more obvious
FYI, getting a new password is not single sign-on. Maybe better than creating a whole new account from scratch, but calling it single sign-on is a misnomer. Single sign-on would not have a new password and would not even require a new login. By definition, with "single sign-on", when you login once, you're already logged in everywhere else you use that login.
So, whatever hybrid login you have for the feedback site (which I've never seen), you shouldn't call it single-sign-on.
And, this baffles me that you would issue a new password. Why not use OpenID which just uses all your Smugmug credentials and requires nothing new to remember?
SUPPORT THE MASS DELETION OF GALLERY OPTION. Why it's not an automatic function is beyond me (it was explained that) certain people would delete stuff and be upset. Blah Blah... Click the link above and show your support. This should not have to be discussed but for whatever reason here we are...
amazing how I was told to add, then it mysteriously doesn't exist... bunch of @#$% agreed samir
I don't understand... the feature request is there, where Andy linked it. What do you guys mean about it disappearing & all. You don't see it? Or are we talking about 2 different things?

Damon, please no need for #@#%@#%#^#^ language, we don't appreciate that here. It's very clear, we merged your idea into an existing one. Just look at the feedback forum.

Much appreciated....
BRING MASS GALLERY DELETION TO SMUG!
You can do that, too. Or google, facebook, twitter, more. Lots of ways.
Anyhow, I'll be addressing this, thanks.
