I understand how to make a clumsy, time consuming fix for me, but as others pointed out, the real problem is that visitors to my site will have the issue, and any suggestions posted here don't help them. It really needs to be fixed. The site works fine with IE 8, but not with IE 9, and everyday more and more people switch to IE 9. I point clients to my site, and I have to wonder if they see what they should. I don't like visiting sites that work poorly, and I hate the idea that my own site is is screwed up for some of my visitors. If it worked fine with IE 8, can it really be that difficult to fix, or is this issue just continuing to be pushed down the bug list?

Here's the recap: The SmugMug gallery style doesn't display correctly in IE9 under Win7 when the SYSTEM display setting is not 100%, even if a non-100% setting is the default. This condition is apparently not uncommon because the Win7 installation defaults to 125% in some circumstances (apparently including a small CRT and a high-res laptop that needs a larger font for readability). SmugMug recommended a temporary workaround: to reset our display setting to 100% and live with the smaller fonts. The question of communicating this to visitors wasn't addressed.
P.S. This is separate from the situation where the BROWSER zoom is not set to 100%.

I can not fully confirm or deny if this is still occurring as I do not have a Windows laptop at home, only Mac. I can check this week in the office, but the current version of IE is now 10. Obviously not everyone has upgraded yet, but more and more will continue to, leaving IE9 as an outdated version.

I can confirm this. Not on a laptop though, on my tower / wide LCD monitor.
IE 10, at 100%, in windows 8, desktop mode, and it still does this. Resize the window a bit and it adjust to the right. Try another gallery and it goes back to being under the thumbs. Makes me sad that so many people use IE. :cry

Can you check your Windows > control panel > appearance > display > text size? It needs to be set to 100% there as well. After changing that setting, you might need to adjust the browser zoom back to 100% again.
This problem still there (for both IE9 and IE10).... after more than a year.
It's not how we as site owner to have a work around, but more importantly to our visitors using IE 9 and 10, who will have a very bad impression in seeing the gallery that way .
Really hope Smugmug can take a serious look at this issue.
I have had this issue on my toshiba laptop for at least as long as when this thread started. I find though, that I cannot see the lettering at 100% and generally keep it at 125%, which btw, is the recommended setting for the computer itself. I feel that since smugmug is the only website that I have encountered this issue, there must be some sort of code that has been written wrong somewhere and it needs to be gone over with a fine tooth comb to find it. At thos moment, I do not have my laptop to tell you what the screen resolution is. But just wanted to let you know that yes indeed, it still happens.
PS...on my laptop, it will do this when it is set at 100%. It looks fine when it is set to 125%.
The laptop screen resolution is 1366x768 which is the recommended and largest resolution for this Toshiba.
Have you checked, both the Windows control panel > appearance > display > text size and the IE zoom level setting? Both of these would need to be set to 100%, which are currently the only settings we support.
If you'd like to keep the control panel text setting at a different setting that 100%, I can only recommend using a different browser than IE. As far as I know, other browsers (Firefox or Chrome) don't show any issue when used with a different Windows text size setting.

All I can say for right now is use 100% for default system zoom in IE, not 125%. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now
