There were a number of times during the safari when I did some low light shooting. The D3s really rose to the occasion at those times.

During our first day in the Maasai Mara we came across a lioness and her three cubs. It was around 7 PM and the lioness and cubs were in the shadows of the surrounding vegetation. There was a fair amount of obscuring branches and grass to make it even more difficult.

These captures were taken with the D3s and the Nikon 200-400 f/4 lens at ISO 6400, wide open amd at shutter speeds ranging from 1/20 sec to 1/60 sec. They aren't my sharpest captures but I was surprised that I got anything usable considering the shooting conditions.

Thanks Gale, its hard to believe that it wasn't that long ago when we wouldn't go above ISO 400 when shooting.

Harry, those lion cubs are such fun to look at. I love the one with the mother bathing her cub, with the cub's paw on mom's--simply a stunning shot!

Thats nice to hear Joel. I wasn't expecting much when I took those captures but was relieved when I started viewing them on the PC.

Your topi looks like it has four eyes!

I like the wind in the fur of the cheetahs too.

Wow, Harry! I love the wildebeast and the hyenas. Last time we saw the play, The Lion King, the acoustics in the theatre were so awful that my husband, Edmund, was routing for the hyenas. I can't remember actually seeing a real one before.

As they say in the theatre, ENCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best, Pam
