Thanks and you have to remember that I've been shooting for a long time. I've only been shooting birds for the last few years since I moved to Florida.

Thanks for the kind words and if you're looking for a cool B-day present we are going back to Africa in early 2013.

As to the biplane..............that would be my first choice!!!!!

Sorry about the harsh living conditions you had to live in. :cry

    I look forward to more.

    Andy,

Your a vegetarian! What the heck would you do with a Pastrami Sandwich, poison the Maasai with American food? :D

Our next 5 days were spent on the Maasai Mara National Reserve at the Rekero Camp. The soft life we had at Lewa Downs was over as we faced the hardships of living in tents.

    Harry,

More great stuff! I assume these horribly crude tent cities are permanently set up for unsuspecting guests like yourselves.

I do need to ask, what's up with the skirts?

It's called a kikoi, worn in East Africa. Super comfy, very cool, great for relaxing in. Also useful out shooting, as a blanket for rough ground, or a scarf when the night gets cool. Love it! I wished Harry would've worn his :yikes

Check out the Muench Workshops website for future workshops. They should be announcing another Africa workshop soon. I think it will be in early 2013.

We spent five days at Rekero Camp in the Maasai Mara and on every day we saw something incredible. There was magic in the air.

We tried to capture the sunrise in the morning

    D3S2894-XL.jpg

    D3D5956-XL.jpg

    D3S2882-XL.jpg

Then we off in the land rovers to see what the wildlife was doing

One of our guides, David Simpson, described this scene as a "pile of lions".

Our first leopard spotting was a major thrill
    D3S2449-XL.jpg

I couldn't believe how close it got to the rovers.
    D3S2446-XL.jpg

We followed the leopard through the brush

you just can't have too many leopard captures

Thanks Marc. I'm still ensconced in my office processing my images from the trip. :baldy You and Andy organized such a great trip that it gave me way too many images to process in a sane manner.

Fortunately I only have 1500 or so to go so I should emerge by the end of the week.

I disagree there definitely was a difference. The hyena was a lot neater and didn't make half as much noise.

Our stay on the Maasai Mara was my favorite stop on the trip. The diversity of wildlife has to be seen to really believe. The light was really fine and we got to shoot in various conditions.

The rain provided some good photo ops.

    D3D5050-XL.jpg

    D3S0960-XL.jpg

    D3S0944-XL.jpg

One of the highlights was when a caracal was sighted. Caracal sightings are very rare. One of our Guides, David Simpson, as been in Africa for 13 years and had sighted a caracal only11 other times during that period.

There was a mother caracal and her two cubs. I never got a good view of the mother while she approached and then stayed behind a termite hill as she called to her cubs. This happened around sunset so it was time to crank the ISO up to 6400 again. We stayed with the caracals for around an hour and a half as we waited for the cubs to emerge from the grass as our light faded.

Initially our view wasn't the greatest.
    D3S3460-XL.jpg

    D3S3598-XL.jpg

just as our light was disappearing the cubs emerged as they headed over to their mother
