It looks like you would benefit from this modification of mine, to avoid cutting peoples' heads off at the top of the frame:

Apart from that, the site looks amazing! Love the background.

Thanks for the modification.. Applied to site and had to make an adjustment and create a separate CSS for the Portrait Page that list the gallery since heads were being cut off there as well.

No quite finished, but here it is!

cool stuff - looks like you get to some fun events!

Looks like you have a similar problem to me with the left side bar though. when i look at your site, most of the social media icons are off the screen, but I can't scroll down to them as the bar is fixed.

Unfortunately there's no way to set an item on the bar to be aligned to the bottom of the page, so it will always go wrong on some screen sizes....

Really like the slideshow on your homepage. Could you post how you did this?

Slideshow is just the basic slideshow that comes with Smugmug.. However the images are all custom made to fit a certain width. Photos were all edited in Photoshop at 933 X 610 and saved into a gallery called Frontpage.

There is more work involved when doing it this way but it makes the slide show look really nice when all photos are the same size.

Im also addicted now I keep changing or updating little things here and there... lol late last night I messed up and had to fix somethings back. I may see or think of new things and love the preview option if I dont like it I simply click the revert button. But im going to leave it alone for now...

Great thread. I like the opportunity to see everyone’s new designs - as well as their photos.

I finally decided to unveil my new design this afternoon after experimenting with the new tools for the past week.

    www.rvanderlippe.com

I’ve tried to design something fairly minimal.

I also want to thank the many people on this list who responded to questions and provided solutions for some customization questions I had.

I find image titles don’t center under the image using the default SmugMug gallery look. The text is off a bit to the left - particularly in larger browser windows (like on my 27” iMac). Since I often add long descriptions along with the title it looks wrong (I know - a picture is worth a thousand words. But sometimes I like to yack about where the image was taken and why I took it). While there are many improvements, that particular change is something that looked better when I was using the legacy display. But, overall, the improvements far outweigh the issues for me.

Wow! Everyone is doing so well!

Well, I just unveiled...I've still got things to fix, but minor adjustments at this point. I'd love feedback! (And if anyone figures out how to increase the font size for gallery descriptions and captions, I'd love to know! Right now, I want to stick with the font style I've chosen in the hopes that I can soon increase the size slightly...but if I can't, I'll have to change that up...)

I checked your site and things look pretty good. But there is one place where you may have an image that is marked as "hidden" or something. When I'm viewing your "Explore" page, the gallery link for "The Furry Ones" doesn't display an image. And, when I click on "The Furry Ones", the same problem exists for the Dogs and Cats gallery that is displayed. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Presto! A rabbit jumped out of my hat...
I equate my effort to convert from the 'old' SmugMug to the 'new' version as a pretty good trick on my part - especially since I have little practice performing magic!

Many of you helped me along the way and I am very grateful.

I also have spent the last few hours looking at much of the other impressive magic that has been unveiled recently. It has been a fun day!

If you have a moment, check out my site and let me know what you think!

    Click ... the Unveiling ...
And ... here it is ...http://bwjcaptures.smugmug.com/ clap.gif The new is better than the old and the more I continue to tinker the more I learn about how to improve the content. I still have some tweaking to perform and things to add, but overall happy as compared to the old. My old site was not heavily customized so the transition wasn't too bad, but took a good deal of time to figured out since no training documentation was provided. headscratch.gif

I have enjoyed the opportunity to look at other sites posted on this thread - the talent is pretty awesome.

    Feedback and/or thoughts are welcome.

    Best to All,

Hi, i also went with very clean look, and white instead of black - i really love being able to achieve this simplicity in look compared to the legacy site. (issue still being investigated is how to align gallery description text with the slideshow button).
    http://getmounted.smugmug.com/

The new smugmug came along at just the right time for me as I wanted to overhaul my site and found the legacy smugmug to look so tired and old-school ... wow look what they've done!!

OK. Here's mine. Broadly similar overall to my legacy site but so much cleaner in the detail and very easy to put together. It's just a shame about the terrible text editor - I've only been able to do a very basic info page. I think I'll have to do a crash course in CSS/HTML to get it right. Also, please can we have a good integrated blogging system? Other than that, great job on the new look. Thanks for all your hard work.

I was with smugmug but left to try squarespace. After a while I found I wasn't happy with loosing many of the smugmug features. When the new system was launched I came back and am now pretty happy with how everything is looking. Here's my new site: http://www.acceleratedlightphotography.com/

My one gripe, similar to the post above, is that I wish there was an integrated blog....

Thank you for catching that! I'll fix it in the morning more permanently, but for now a goat has replaced the puppy. :)

I'm still struggling to see which photos I've hidden when I'm in the organizer. any tips would be welcome.

    ConciergePhoto.com Site
My site.. would love any feedback on ways to make it better! Going through more CSS changes now to customize. Now that I can, trying to reorganize a bit. I like cleaner and more simple, elegant, but having trouble with the clunky all photo Pinterest look that many love.

In the spirit of sharing, not sure I like this format yet, still a work in progress. http://www.digi-scapes.com.

I'm open to any and all CC you want to give.

A couple things I'd like help with too.

    1) Does anyone know how to move the transparent bar farther to the right? I'd like about a 1/2 to 1 inch margin from the left edge of the page. Yes I know the logo hangs off of it. That's intentional :)

    2) Can anyone tell me why my background photo is not as sharp as the original image? I shoot a Nikon D800 and have the full size images uploaded to SM but for some reason all the images I've tried as the background look like they have been scaled up, when in fact (depending on monitor size) they would be scaled down.

Andy I've notice some difference between Mac and Windows using both Safari and Firefox on the Mac and Firefox on Windows. It seems that some of the formatting gets a little out of whack. In particular, I'm talking about the left banner on my site http://www.digi-scapes.com On FF windows, it's about 1/2 inch from the far left edge of the browser window, in FF on my Macbook Pro and iMac it's about 1 1/2in from the edge. Any ideas to make it more cross platform compatible?
