Don't mean to be stuck on the Canal du Midi, but it does have a lot of water in it. This is one of the several places where the canal crosses a river, this time the river Tarn.
Unfortunately a disease has attacked the trees and many of them are dying. In 2011 a girlfriend and I rode from Bordeaux to Sete and there were many stretches with no shade whatsoever, which made it sometimes uncomfortable as the temperature was well into the 90s. For the bike rider, the locks keep the way interesting - each one seemed to have its own character.

Aaah, looks familiar :-)
The Canal Midi was built and engineered about 375 yrs ago.
It was an agricultural canal carrying crops quickly when considering the road system of the time, water from the pyrenees mountains
One of the things that impressed me was the Italian Poplars that hold the banks of the canal and an additional benefit is the canopy they provide
Of course the locks are amazing since you're going uphill on the canal
Cheers, Sara
