Anytime some one is in the Space Coast area give me a holler and I can show you some good shooting locations.

I am sure that some would say that this doesn't really count as the South, but I recently moved to the very Southern edge of Virgina. In fact, the city limits end at North Carolina. I don't know of anything interesting around here to shoot, but I would love to get out and see the surrounding area.
I am in Birmingham, AL and travel to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Apalachicola (halfway between Panama City and Tallahassee). I could meet up at any of these places with a good amount of advanced notice.
Sorry ShannonW I can't make Atlanta this saturday. Maybe in the future. I heard the aquarium is nice.

Thanks for the reply! I would love to go to New Orleans but, that's quite a drive for me. But maybe the right weekend if we could get more folks together any of those places would be cool :
I expect to going up there once a week through May. If anybody wants to join me just drop me a PM.

You should be able to find plenty of crime scenes to photograph if you volunteer your services to the local PD. :hack Danville seems to be on the local news almost every night. Sorry, can't help myself. Southwest Virginia is a really great area.
If you get up to the Roanoke area, I can show you around. The Blue Ridge Parkway, Peaks of Otter, and Mabry Mill are all day drives from your area.
Dallas/Ft Worth Anyone?
Anyone here in the Dallas Ft Worth Area? There are a LOT of Local meetups of area photographers and group shoots if interested.

After seeing a number of fellow dgrinners from areas within 2 hrs of Birmingham, thought that have a little get together photo shoot at one or multiple places around Birmingham.
A few suggestions could be Liberty Statue at Liberty Park, Vulcan, Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Aldridge Gardens, Birmingham Zoo, there are many interesting downtown areas, Five Points South, etc. We actually could hit multiple locations.
I am thinking a Sunday afternoon like 4ish till like 7 or 8pm. I could do this Sunday but realize it may be short notice for some of you. How about Sunday the 20th?

That's a great idea! I noticed quite a few Alabamians on dgrin as well. I'd like to shoot at Five Points South - I've been meaning to bring a couple of models out there but haven't had the heart to ask them to bake while I take pics... let me know if it's a go. Aldridge Gardens is a nice place - I've been there a few times and it's close to the house!

Sounds good. The Aug 20th from 4-7. Should we meet up at the fountain or maybe at the corner near Ruby Tuesday's.
I looked up a bunch of people with alabama in their location and pm them this thread. Hopefully we will have a few more. I tried to get everybody that had visited the site somewhat recently.

went I went to stay in Kentucky, I met with people around the nation, and they couldn't believe how much I said "y'all!" it's just such a normal thing here, we think NOTHING of it...and you guys is WAY too long to say. the whole world needs to adopt y'all.
plus, without the word y'all, how would you explain the "vous form" in French?
well, I'm from North Louisiana, so...if you happen to have a shoot in north louisiana, I might be able to pick out some spots....just PM or email me....

Did we decide on where at Five Points? I will head that way Sunday to snap a few, but really want to go to Vulcan as well. In fact, I would love to meet at Vulcan and then hit five points because it's not as crowded for finding and meeting up with people I don't know. Hoping for a good clear day to capture b'ham.

That sounds good 4pm at the Vulcan parking lot. Make it where the steps start that lead up to the statue. I should have my large black backpack type camera bag and probably a 10D or a 20D in my hand.

Sounded like fun, but I missed the post. Need to check in more often. Did it work out?
Actually it didn't due to some communications issues. Some of the other dgrinners left a message for me and could only check back until friday. I checked back on Saturday and left another message.
Anyway I talked to one poster and we are gonna try and do it again sometime. I will pm or email you if we do, if you maybe interested.

While some don't consider Maryland southern we ARE below the Mason-Dixon line, we know sweet-tea is the only kinda tea, and we say "y'all" while callin' you "honey". *but just in case I'll post in the "Northeast" thread too.
Well, I'm in Calvert County (Southern Maryland, 'bout 30min South of Annapolis and 45 mins South and East of DC), but I'll be in Lexington, Va for four days soon. I'm riding in the World Percheron Congress at the Virginia Horse Center so I'll be in town Oct. 24-28th. Hopefully the foliage will behave and be real pretty when I get down there.
I'll probably make a hike out to Natural Bridge one of the days, any suggestions? I can't be gone the whole day since I do have to get back and check on/feed my horse, but I'm sure he wouldn't miss for a few hours.
Anybody up for another try for a Birmingham meetup sometime soon?

I am a brand new photographer that has A LOT to learn. I am interested in finding a photographer that's into the photojournalistic style to shadow and help teach me the basics. My site is www.olivialeighphotography.com
Someone told me to check here since this is in my "region." I am interested in help and advice, but literally barely know the basics. I shoot for fun because I love it, but don't know any of the technical stuff.
I will be in Louisiana for the holidays and will be doing a good bit of shooting from St Francisville to the north to New Orleans to the south and some in Baton Rouge. I should be there from Dec 14th to Dec 29th (except the 21st & 22nd) and plan to do a ton of shooting. Any other dgrinners that would like to meetup and shoot together I would enjoy the company. I have shot many locations but I am sure other locals will know of other, hidden treasures or less travel places.

I would be interested in getting together with some other photographers in the state and going to interesting or different location. (ie Noccalula Falls Park near Gadsden, Peavine Falls in Oak Mt Park in Pelham, Lake Guntersville, or just a trip through many small towns and little seen places, 5pts South, Cahaba River (many locations), Vulcan, etc). A good time for me would be after the first of the year.
I would really be interested in just picking a less traveled path through many small towns and taking a full day to travel maybe 100-200 miles while allowing for many opportunities to pull over and take some shots of anything interesting, but to also have researched the route and the towns to have planned stops to take in different and unique locals.
I have pm a few dgrinners who had there location listed as Alabama to try to get a feel if anyone is interested in something like this.

Dixie and myself will be meeting up tomorrow (Thursday Nov 29th) in the morning (about 9am) at Noccalucca Falls to go shooting for the day. If anybody else is interested let me know. I forsee Dixie and myself doing regular / semiregular treks around the state for a while, so even if you aren't interested in going this time, let me know and I can keep you informed on future shoots.

Hi Y'all,
The shooting season at the rookery in the St. Augustine Alligator farm has begun. Right now the great heron and wood storks are building their nests.
The Alligator Farm website can be found here http://www.alligatorfarm.us/
