    Hello,

Andy - you should get a Nikon - EOS adapter and shoot some fixed objects with the same body, tripod, MLU, etc.

Adapter would only cost a few bucks and then we wouldn't have to listen to all the Nikon excuses of why the test was unfair... mwink.gifmwink.gif:D

It looks like Andy will be shooting with this lens, and Harry will be shooting with this one.

Andy has 3 crop factors to choose from: 1.0, 1.3, and 1.6. And the 1D II can AF at f/8 (i.e. a 2X TC) and shoot 8MP at 8 FPS. From what I've read, the D2H and D2X can AF at f/5.6 (I.E. a 1.4X TC).

The Nikon 500mm f/4 is $7,100 retail from B&H whereas the Canon 500mm f/4 IS is $5,500. That's 30% more expensive for just about the same lens, except of course the lack of IS on the Nikon lens.

Of course, all this technical information doesn't mean that Andy's results will be any better than Harry's, just that he has more options.

Kinda like how DGrin is better than DPReview's forums because we have better emoticons.

Andy I'm sure you can get your hands on a 1D mkIIN that has the same 1.3 crop factor (uh I'm pretty sure) as the D2X...

I mean, you're on a first name basis with the president of Canon right?
Y'all don't want to hear me, you just want to dance.

I have full frame, Ian's got the 1.3x covered with the 1D Mark II and we'll have a 20D and a 10D. Might even have my R-1 Infrared Mod by then but I don't think either monster could be mounted on that puppy lol3.gif

I have the D100, the D2H and the D2X. We seem to have most of the major bodies covered. Now the only question is "who's going to lug all ths stuff around"? What's Waxy doing during the time of the shoot-off? :D

    Rutt, Rutt, Rutt,

I know everthing! Old Man Harry won't stand a chance. Our critical tests will all be from 330pm to 5pm, and that's when he needs his nappy....

Hmm, well, since I live just north of Harry in Daytona (about an hours drive) I guess I should be willing to sacrifice some of my precious time to volunteer to be the designated lens caddy! LoL biggrinbounce2.gif

I was just thinking along those lines. I know why you're going to be there. You've got the 500mm F4 Nikon. I know why Ian is going to be there. He's got the Canon 500mm F4. So unless Andy is bringin' the ribs, he might as well sherpa for you two REAL shooters lol3.gif :lol

Geeze, management. They always think they are necessary, when all they do is get in the way.....Laughing.gif Hey wait. I used to be in management rolleyes1.gif

Alas Steve there is a basic fallacy in my thinking. I was trying to find a useful role for a management person. rolleyes1.gif The two are just not compatible.

Thanks. Sure it happened. I threw a perfectly good Canon 400mm f/2.8 in the water out back. I thought I would test the waterproofing (seals) on the lens so I can bicker and boast to the Nikon users. I thought with ammo like that..I could keep that Nikon vs. Canon thread alive. It's just such a worthwhile and educational topic. rolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gif:D
