I should have said "unpredictable" in their handling, since the weight distribution was skewed highly towards the front of the car. Got used to it later, but the bimmers didn't handle well in snowy or icy situations - period.
Funny, that is the last reason I would have expected you to give, as bimmer's are famous for having a nearly 50/50 weight distribution. In fact, they pride themselves on it and go to lengths to keep it that way. It's not easy on a front engined car, so things like the battery end up in the trunk.
I have a steep-ish driveway to an entrance gate at which I have to stop. When that road's wet, I have a hard time getting going without a nice wheel spin.
Going at a moderate speed on a downtown freeway connecting curve in the wet, the rear end started to slide out. My magnificent driving skills righted the ship.
My 525, and before it my 325, have swishier rear-rends than any other vehicles I've driven. Both handled wonderfully in the dry. Both have to be watched with a hawk eye in the wet.
So, just to rub salt in Junior's wound a little bit: My lease *is* up in May/June on my Misery Van. I'm looking to buy a fun car for andy-wife so that I can have her Jeep. I'd like to NOT lease another new car, but rather, spend like $10-$15K on something fun.

doesn't matter what you get. It'll be automatic so it might as well be a honda

well seeing as you aren't getting any younger Andy, why not invest in one you'll love in the future....

I would be enjoying this thread if I didn't have scroll half a page everytime DanielBsmileyface posts.
That business aside, did Waxy suggest a ... a WRX?! Waxy, are you a 22 year old boy with sideburns and japanese character tattoos? I've never driven a bigger piece of crap in my life. You can brew a cup of coffee in the time it takes for that turbo to spool up, and every cheapass control on the dashboard will snap off long before you can shake it off with the spartan suspension components. My last go-kart had a smoother ride. I compare it to a Playboy centerfold - on paper it sure is gorgeous, but in real life it has cellulite and a voice like Rodney Dangerfield.
No, Andy needs something much more sophisticated... perhaps one of these:
A decent one of these classic boxers can be had in your price range.
So now this thread's scope has expanded. Helping both nandysso and andy to purchase new wheels, or to dissuade either of them from making a bad choice in their next set of wheels. Hmmmm. In that case, this thread could go on into infinity, as the DGrin picture post game seems to have.
May I suggest a compromise proposal? I think it may be father/son contract time. DavidTO is Andy's lawyer, so he should be able to draw it up.
Part One:
• Andy buys a used auto for nandysso at whatever price and model nandysso chooses.
• Nandysso then buys pop a used (or new - I hear that the free college is saving Andy some serious dough) car of Andy's dreams.
Part Two:
• Whoever wreaks their car first buys the other their next car.
