Yeah you guys are right, it looks like it only happens in IE. We'll we've nailed the scope of the issue down I think. I'm interested to see what the result is.

I know of the problem with the entire local path appearing in the caption...this is not what I'm talking about.

First, there used to be a file name field included with the others like camera, more details, original size, current, other sizes, and keywords. It no longer appears in any of my galleries. It was invaluable when the caption was added because I didn't have to worry about reproducing the file name there. Now there's really no way for a viewer to give me a list of images short of a link-list, but I've got to visit every link, then find the image. I want that name back!

Second, and related, when I now upload files, the thumbnail no longer displays "user > gallery > filename" as a tool tip. This was also handy...especially when the file name field disappeared. :-) What it displays now is "user > gallery photo" and by this I mean the gallery name and the word 'photo' after a space.

The first problem affects all the galleries I have. The name field is gone. The second problem only affects newly uploaded files. My old images have the "user > gallery > filename" tooltip while the newly uploaded images replace the file name with the word 'photo.' Not nearly as good.

    Ideas? Is it me?
I cannot reproduce any of these, looking here:
    http://alienshore.smugmug.com/gallery/425959/1/58749130/Medium

I validated in IE6 and Firefox browsers. I see the alt-text ( "user > gallery > filename" ) and the filename under the photo.
Do you see it on the link I made here in this post?

The alt text is there...because it's an older gallery, yes.

The interesting thing is it appears to be the age of the gallery itself, not when the images were uploaded. This gallery was created about a year ago: http://alienshore.smugmug.com/gallery/674700/ the file names in the tooltips work just fine. The first image was uploaded minutes ago and looks fine.

This gallery was created this weekend: http://alienshore.smugmug.com/gallery/1797576 The alt text is either "user > gallery 'photo'" or if there's a caption, it's "user > caption". My older galleries don't show the caption in the tooltip...see the first image in the gallery you linked. I added a caption to the first image, but the filename still shows in the tooltip.

Regarding the file name under the photo, I see it in the caption in the gallery you linked, but there used to be a non-editable filename field mixed in with camera, more details, original size, current, other sizes, and keywords. That filename field is not there when I view it.

As it stands now, if the filename isn't in the caption, there's no way for a viewer to determine what it is...and that's more than a bit of a pain in the behind to me.

    Photo not Found
A bunch of my galleries are missing photos - they show photo not found icons in place of where there used to be photos. What's going on? Server down?

I don't get the filename, i get the caption. Make sure your (shift-) refresh?

The filename will only show in the place of a caption, if you don't have a caption for that particular photo. The filename still shows in the information given below the photo.

Shopping cart does not switch back to http:// (non-SSL)
Go to any Smugmug gallery that allows the option to purchase photos (for example http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/52248), click on View Cart.

    This takes you to https://www.smugmug.com/cart/

Next, click on Continue Browsing. This takes you back to the gallery, but the link back is still SSL (https://)

(Running under Windows) in Firefox you will get a security error and in IE, you will get a Security Alert saying the certificate doesn't match the name of the site, click Yes to proceed then in IE a warning pops up "This page contains both secure and non-secure items, do you want to display non-secure items?"...

This bug is not very popular to end users... To correct it, the Continue Browsing link needs to be changed to http://

    Bulk cart
I dunno if anyone has ever encountered this but here goes, when in a password protected gallery the bulk cart add displays an error page stating the following "We're sorry, the owners of these photos have not enabled printing." even though the gallery is customized for selling and pro pricing is set.

    any ideas
    here is a sample gallery

Yes! I just tested with the password protected gallery I've been setting up. Single "buy:this photo" links work just fine, but the "multiple photos" link returns the error you mention.

    Smugmug, please fix!

Aha, I've narrowed down the problem for you....

I tested using javier' sample gallery
    http://www.jrinaldiphotography.com/gallery/1810909

(on Windows) Using IE the error occurs. I only use IE for end user testing. Using Firefox the builk add works fine. Problem is, most of the users to this gallery will be using IE on Windows.

If you are so inclined my gallery is http://gallery.primarycolors.com/gallery/1772977

Strange as I get the error in IE and FF on my test PC. Tried clearing cookies, I'll have to try from work tomorrow, see what it does there.

Firstly, thank you for responding Ivar. It's very much appreciated.

Secondly, if I can beg your indulgence, maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

What I want to do is have no caption, and have the file name appear in the info below the photo...in a field labeled 'File name'. That's it.

If I leave the filename setting turned off in the gallery options, I get no caption and no file name field. If I add a caption, I get a caption and no file name field. That's not so good.

If I turn the filename setting on, I get the file name as the caption. If I add my own caption, the file name *then* appears in a field below the image.

Does this sound match your experience? Some of my confusion may have been a refresh issue, but I'm making sure it's no longer a factor.

The last option is as close as I can currently get. It would be fine except for two things. I've just changed my file naming convention and to those used to my old ones, the new names aren't immediately recognizable as such. Also, if I add captions to some images and not others, the file name will appear in different places, depending on the image.

rpali, go into "edit caption/keywords bulk" under photo tools
and add <> to each caption. This keeps the file name below
in the info section and the caption will be blank.

I'd vastly prefer it do this automatically somehow, but this isn't too bad at all. Thanks for writing...

Still not sure what's going on. I can see the behavior on your gallery - that's confirmed. I could not replicate it though on a new gallery with exact same settings. I've bugged it anyhow, though.

Okay, I duplicated it on FF as well, by doing this:

    Using FF on Windows:
    1) Create a new password protected gallery
    2) Add two photos
    3) While still logged in, click "multiple photos" -- this will show the Batch Add page.
    4) Click "logout" from the Batch Add page, "In 10 seconds, you'll automatically go back to the page you were viewing." wil be displayed.
    5) If you click on the "page you were viewing" link or wait the 10 seconds, "We're sorry, the owners of these photos have not enabled printing." will be displayed.

If I log back in the error does not occur in Firefox.

With all that said, I see the error goes away in IE as well if I login then do the bulk add.

And... hey Andy, here is a new angle: If I'm logged in to Smugmug and visit Javier's password protected gallery, the multiple photos (bulk add) link works. If I'm logged out of my account, the bulk add returns the error on his site.

Hopefully this will help you guys figure out why this is happening.

It's on JT's list of things to get to, other stuff has higher priority though. We don't get complaints from your (and other pros) customers about this at the help desk. Should it be fixed? I'll say yes, it should - and our engineers are aware of it.

    Thanks for posting!

Thanks for taking a look, I had thought there was something related to IP/login as my PC's at home share a router and I login at work. And all three see the same behavior, I'll have to try a random PC somewhere to verify this.

    Broken search
The search function on my site, and my wife's, isn't picking up keywords. I have modified both sites, and I suspected my own code first. But even after enabling the SmugMug header above my code the SmugMug header search bar doesn't work either -I get no results when I search my site for "dragonfly" and it should return just about every dragonfly shot that I have. Is something wrong with accessing the keywords database table?

    My site: dalantech.smugmug.com

    The Mrs.: juneross.smugmug.com

    Thanks!

Edit: The search bar on my site worked -I tested it after I moved it to my menu and I haven't touched the code since the move.

    Applying themes via control panel
Seems like when I use the Themes button within the "organize and customize" section of my control panel to change the "all pages" theme to one that I've created, the change doesn't happen. On the other hand (five fingers and all), if I use the Themes button from the logged-in tool bar on my site, the change is made. A very minor squawk to be sure, but I thought I'd register the problem.

Control panel will set your page to all pages and any gallery that has "default" set for theme.

Not a bug, Carbonite has some unique design elements. Make a post in the customization forum, and I'll be sure that Lee (the designer) helps when he can!

deleted photo - caption still there?
This isn't the first time I encounter this. I've deleted a photo which shows shows up with a direct gallery link in google as one of the first results. It took a couple of days and then the picture itself was gone, but the caption is still there. Therefore the direct gallery link still works and won't disappear from google.

How long does the database cleanup take after deleting a photo?

Can't you just redirect deleted photo links back to the gallery start page right after deleting them? This way *I* would be in charge of search results when unwanted things come up at first on result pages.

Here's the photo link I was referring to: rainforest1155.smugmug.com/gallery/119832/1/32500237/Medium

    Thanks,
