There are some really nice pictures shown here on various desk tops. I've done this exercise before on another list with no problems but for some reason today I can't upload my screen grabs to smugmug, their being uploaded but not arriving.

I have to say, whilst the pictures are nice, I'm finding it more interesting to see how people have their desktop layouts set up, I'm always bemused by the amount of icons people litter their desktops with.

I'm starting to think I suffer from OCD, but I just want to delete all those icons and set up a nice clean toolbar and organised menu structure, let me clean, I must clean!

    Here's my current desktop background:

It's from Sean Sherstone's smugmug site . He's part of the Daily Photos smugmug community and his daily shots focus on creating wide screen backgrounds for download.

Here's another one of his that I've used, link. And yes, I do use my own shots too - I used this one for awhile:

I'm with you, Charlie. Not an icon on my desktop. I also find photos really distracting. I've tried them, but I just can't stand having them there.

If mac's had a real maximize button you wouldn't have that problem. That's the biggest complaint I have when I use a mac in the computer center, there's no real maximize button.

Meh. I actually dislike it when an app takes over my whole screen. Guess that's why I'm a Mac guy! :D Windows are designed to get big enough, not as big as they can get.

Do you know that's funny, I've only been using Macs for about 18 months, but even when I use Windows, I hate using apps full screen, for some reason I have to be able to see some desktop, it's an odd foible but it seems I'm not alone.

C'mon over! I need all the help I can get :) I'm horribly disorganized.

Here's my one at work....it's slightly better :) This is a dog that I took a picture of while we were sitting at a stop light. It was just too cute!

Hehe, if you do nothing else at least download Powertools and get rid of those horrid little arrows on your shortcuts!

I like the little arrows, it helps me keep my shortcuts straight from my .exe's. As far as my shortcut clutter goes, I only have 3 things that stay on my desktop (Recycle bin, Internet Explorer, Bluetooth), everything else is just things (in this case almost all files of folders) that I haven't gotten around to yet.

Seemed like it took forever to do this, when you're my age you should read the instructions and not rely on your memory

So, I've decided to try out having a photo as my desktop background. I've found it really distracting in the past, but thought I'd give it another go.

    Here's what I chose:

changed to a new background today:

    111046635-L.jpg

Bad storms Thursday afternoon and evening here in Central Pennsylvania - lots of rain and damaging winds (same storm that was deadly in NC). But as the storm was departing, the most intense golden sky . . .

Thanks. I don't even keep folders on my desktop! :D An occasional file, but it's quickly whisked away to it's home.

I couldn't resist asking this, David. If you don't keep folders on your desktop (which is admirable!) then how can a desktop background be "distracting"???? What else is there to look at? rolleyes1.gifRight now I'm thinking I need to get all the folders off my desktop......they are an eyesore to be sure! rolleyes1.gif

In the lingering state between RC1 (Doesn't support XNA Beta 2 easily) and RTM (Not here yet!) I have reverted to using XP SP2 on my desktop. Just a few icons as I am a Start menu guy and I agree that it feels cluttered. I want to show off my support for Schumi and Ferrari! Not hide it!

Click for extremely high full res (2 screens ftw!)
