December 20th, 2008: UPDATE BY ANDY: NEW Version here!

Everyone:

I just released WP-SmugMug, a plugin for WordPress and SmugMug today. Specify the RSS feed url for a SmugMug album in your post, and the plugin will display thumbnails and links at the end of the post content. The HTML and CSS is customizable in WordPress's admin section.

You can see examples of the plugin in action here:

http://www.tow.com/2006/12/14/erics-birthday-party/

Download the plugin from here:

Enjoy!

    Problem with large galleries
Just thought I'd share that I found a problem with this plugin (actually it turns out to be with MagpieRSS) when a large gallery is linked (>300 or so). I tracked it down to an OLD version of MagpieRSS being used by default in all of the Wordpress installs. However, it's very straightforward to update...just dump the latest release of MagpieRSS anywhere on your server and update wp-smugmug.php to include the new file. I upgraded to MagpieRSS 0.72, and it's working like a champ. Get the latest version here...http://magpierss.sf.net

I actually have this on my site... its working for the Recent Galleries RSS Feed, and I'd like to add one for the Recent Photos. But for some reason, MagpieRSS reads the Recent Galleries feed fine but its not returning anything for the Recent Photos (thus, its not displaying on the page). I thought initially it was my code - but I installed wp-smugmug and it had the same behavior. When I added the recent gallery feed, it displayed images, it didn't display anything for my recent photos.

I think this is an issue with WP's built-in magpierss - but I can't prove it. I've downloaded the latest version and put it in the site, but its conflicting with the built-in version if i include it. Any help on this end would be appreciated. I'm thinking of making this a plugin.

I did this in ASP using a custom built RSS reader, and it works fine - so it can't be the feed itself.

    http://www.montanezdeluna.com/index.html (AJAX/ASP version)

    My smugmug album is http://mnmdl.smugmug.com

ETA: I've completed the plug-in... yay! (except for the Recent Photos error/bug mentioned here). Check it out in action!

The link to your plugin page does not work for me. Is there a new location for it?

    Bump:

Is there a way to combine this plugin with a “light-box” effect, such as offered using this plugin: http://www.laptoptips.ca/projects/wp-shutter-reloaded/

I’d rather have the pictures pulled into the post by wp-smugmug open up “light-box”-like instead of redirecting the viewer directly to the album.

    Is that workable?
    thanks!

right at the bottom of your smugmug page click on -> "available feeds" -> available fees appear, copy the link, that's it

Thank you for pointing me to the link for the RSS code, however I have created code to remove that link from the bottom of my pages, so I can't get it from there. Is there a generic format for the feed that just includes different gallery numbers?

Secondly, I have installed this mod three times, and can't get it to work. Is there something I am doing wrong?

I have loaded the appropriate file into the plugin folder, then activated the mod in the admin panel. When I create a post, I use wp-smugmug for the field type, and then added the RSS URL (which someone gave me from another post) to the added field.

Nothing appears though when I do this. Is anyone else having this issue? Am I missing something?

    Lightbox Problem
Good Morning! Thank you for this plugin. This looks like something we can use for our church's student ministry website.

However, I do have one issue. When I choose lightbox, it doesn't seem to work. Right now I have it set to lightbox; however, when you click a photo, it acts like a link to the actual picture on smugmug.

    http://www.fireintheforest.com/media-central/photos/

I made sure to have the jQueryLightbox plugin installed and activated in order for lightbox to work. It doesn't look like there are settings to change for that plugin.

    Any ideas? headscratch.gif

    Cason:

I loaded your page up and see a parse error in the jQuery-Lightbox javascript file. Resolving that should make the lightbox code work properly.

Look in your browser's error console to see the error.

I'm using the jQuery-Balupton plugin that you appear to be using as well. Got it from here:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jquery-lightbox-balupton-edition/

Can you try disabling the PicLens plugin that you have an reenabling the the jQuery-Balupton WordPress plugin? I seem to recall there being a conflict between those two plugins at one point. If that doesn't work, try temporarily the other Lightbox plugin (it uses Prototype).

When I select the option "Gallery Page on wordpress blog" as you have in the example here: http://www.tow.com/projects/wordpress/wp-smugmug/ I only get my post reloaded with a long URL. Am I doing something wrong?

You may need to enable pretty permalinks on your blog before you can use the WP-SmugMug WordPress gallery mode.

Check in your WP-Admin > Settings > Permalinks for more info.

WP-SmugMug is Fine in Firefox but Distorted in IE7
    See http://blog.roundamerica.com/?p=439

Can anyone tell me what is causing the problems in Internet Explorer?

I am successfully using WP-SmugMug on other pages in my blog -- displays properly in both Firefox and IE7.

    This gallery has 99 images -- http://roundamerica.smugmug.com/gallery/6835733_aM5Us#436923119_q8sKf

All of the images are fine.

Bill - As we discussed, the issue was external hotlinking to the images was disabled in your SmugMug gallery settings. Make sure that's enabled, otherwise external sites like your blog will not be able to access the images from SmugMug.

    Display random selection of photos?
This plugin works very well! I would like to display six random photos from my gallery, not necessarily the first six. Is there a way to do this? I thought the "Number of photos to retrieve from gallery" option would do it, but I always get the first six. Example is at

Thanks for any help, and great job!
