The 10-22 Canon for shooting birds, hahahaha. No, that is the problem. My favorite lens is the one for the moment.
After my ultra wide Canon was stolen, I bought a 10-20 Sigma, and though I did like the Canon better, I would have to say.........if I could have only one lens, it would be either of those. I like specialty lenses.
The lens I actually use the most is the 400 Prime as I go out to shoot birds alot. Shooting birds is kind of my reason to be. I have used an ultra wide with them, too.
One thing about a specialty lens, like an ultra wide, IMO, not every shot will come together and work, but when they do, it is usually special.
Oh, and I would have to add Thusie's new 300 to my list of favorite lenses. I think someone mentioned one back a bit in this thread. Me o my, that would not be my favorite, exactly, I guess that is my dream lens.
300L f2.8 IS..ya baby! with the 1.4 and 2x TC, course straight up too,
400L f5.6, Don is using that with the 20D, very happy camper.
35L f1.4
200L f2.8
Hey all, just wanted to see what are the most used lenses on smugmug, and since I cant list every single lens in the poll, I'll list a lens range, then if you comment with your 1 or 2 fav lenses, I'll add them to my post, and we can have a list of our favorite lenses on smugmug .
Wow, only two favorites?
I absolutely love my new Sigma 50-150 f/2.8 DC. It beats the snot out of dragging around a 70-200 f/2.8!
I absolutely love my legendary Sigma 150mm f/2.8 Macro. It is simply way better than anything else out there, as far as price / image quality / build quality is concerned altogether.
I wouldn't know what to do without my Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4 at a wedding or portrait session. That lens is a must.
I'm so glad I bought my Tokina 17mm f/3.5 ATX Pro, it's such an awesome lens on both my DSLR and my FM2 / N65.
My Nikon 24-85 AFS is the one lens that has taken probably the majority of my landscape photos, on both film and digital. Actually, I'm on my second 24-85 AFS, my first one broke and I just couldn't live without it so I bought another... It's an outdoor photographer's dream, because it's super light and small, yet perfectly sharp. It pairs perfectly (for outdoor photography) with the Nikon 12-24 DX and the Nikon 80-400 VR...
Oy, now to decide which two are my top favorite. Wait a minute, the topic doesn't say you have to OWN the lens for it to be your favorite! Well then add to that list my three favorite lenses to rent, the Nikon 12-24 DX, the Nikon 17-55 DX, and the Nikon 80-400 VR.
NOW to decide...
I think if I were stranded on an island with only two lenses, or if I were going on a wild, far-flung adventure to Tibet or Madagascar or New Zealand (or Iceland, or Alaska, etc. etc.) ...I couldn't imagine being there without the Nikon 12-24 DX and the Sigma 150mm Macro. I just couldn't see myself without those lenses.
HOWEVER, if I were heading to a WEDDING with only two lenses, I couldn't imagine doing it with anything other than the Nikon 17-55 DX and my Sigma 50-150 DC. To not have at least those two lenses would be suicide...
To discuss what is your favorite lens without mentioning what event/topic/subject you are shooting is kind of like asking what is your favorite shirt, shoes, or coat without discussing the climate and the weather, or what is your favorite motorcycle without mentioning terrain/ on or off road.
For people, events like weddings, family outings, a 24-105 or a 24-70 are great. For wildlife something substantially longer will be required 400mm+
For architecture, a super wide 17mm or a 24T&S might be more use.
What I like to have are lenses by Schneider-Kreuznach or Carl Zeiss - if they even make any for Nikon/Canon DSLRs. I've heard they make lenses for them, and I've heard they don't but will. I can't afford any right now anyway, but I will just wait and see what I can do if/when they are availiable.

And P.S. Your website's kinda creepy, is it some kind of joke, or is it a serious web site?
The site is no joke. Is it that eye looking through the tear in the fabric of the universe that looks scary?
Nothing in the site that's scary at all. You'd just have to watch the sermons to see that it's an interesting site.
And thanks for the Zeiss sites!

My most used is my Canon 50mm 1.4. They can complain about it searching to focus in low light all they want... this baby has gotten me tons of warm flashless images of my baby daughter, and at 1/5th the price of the 1.2L, it's a steal.
My favorite lens is also that same 50mm 1.4, but my second favorite is my Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro. Don't cut yourself on this one! It's razor sharp.
My most useful is probably my 100-400L... it's just such a fun range!

1. Canon 17-40 F/4L - My walkaround lens, great image quality for the price, though the long end is a tad too short...
2. Canon 70-200 F/4L IS - Great zoom lens, and with IS!

Then you can vote for 24-70 and 70-200 to cover it :P
And the main point of the survey is to just get a general idea of what lenses we use on smugmug, the tally is the real dealbreaker here :P
When its done, it can almost serve as a lens recommendation list for new photographers :P.
