I'm going to have to go with my Nikon 24-70 2.8 as my favorite.

I agree. I'm getting close to selling off some other lenses. It has only left my camera twice in the last two months, both times for a faster prime for dark event shooting.

Why is this consumer grade lens a favourite of mine? Well, I rarely shoot much beyond the 80mm FoV and when I do need tele, my expectations of this lens are low, and yet it always manages to greatly exceed my expectations.

Well, like Jim stated: It really depends on what your shooting, and with what body...

That said, if I could only own one lens: Hands down it would be the 24-105L f/4.

This can handle just about anything you throw at it, and do it well. Good range, sharp, good color, contrast & IS.

But, exactly due to this lens being the "Jack of All Trades", it doesn't shine in any one particular case. If I have a need for something with a shallow DOF, I'll grab my 35L, 135L or 70-200L 2.8IS.

I've taken far more shots with a Tamron 90 mm macro lens than with my other lenses. It stays on my Nikon D5000 most of the time.

A Sigma 150-500 mm zoom is next most often used. My Nikon 70-300 zoom is not used much since the Sigma arrived.

I don't own any other lenses.
