OK, so I got LR 1.3 installed and imported my backed up catalogue, but now the program is freezing shortly after load up. Has anyone else had this problem??
I had this problem back with version 1.0. I would launch LR on my MBP and it would constantly say "working..." and 1 of the processors would be pegged at 100%. I tried everything to fix the problem even contacting Adobe support, but ultimnately rebuilding the database is what I had to do to fixed it (supposedly when I later upgraded to version 1.1 that would have fixed it too).

    Are you running Leopard?

Glad that fixed your problem, sorry you had to go to that level to fix it though.

Well I didn't actually lose anything. Just had to reimport minus the copy new pics function, then redirect LR to find the photos in the location I keep them. Worked well thumb.gif

It's a PDF, but there may also be a problem with it. However, if you right click on it, you can download the file to your Mac and look at the document there. thumb.gif

Not sure pdf files should open automatically in the browser, mine do and that link did for me, but..

Try right clicking (control+click) and selecting any option to download it to your desktop then open once it's there

You can right click on it and choose "open with Preview' for example

What you might need though is a few plugins that Ive garnered from here and there, just google them, and choose the originators link, they'll help opening all kinds of stuff

    -VLC
    -Flip4Mac WMV
-Real player ( the free version)
    -Windows media player (WMV)
    -Stuffit expander (free version)

BTW a good and easy ftp program is 'Transmit' from Panic software

Check out also these sites for good updates and useful stuff

(just google them or stick a www in front)
    -VersionTracker
    -Tucows

there are several other will known mac help sites but I havent used them so cant remember them , macfixit is one I think...

Gus, that should open in "Preview". Preinstalled on your machine, at least it was on mine...

    Goodbye Parallels, hello VMware Fusion.

Seems to be faster, less clunky and easier to install, use & manage.

Gus, I click on that link and the PDF opens in a Safari window, just fine.

    Which browser are you using?

Safari should just view it. Other browsers like FF should save it and give you the option to open in the application of your choosing. Use Preview to view PDFs, as mentioned above.

You could also just use a real man's browser, like FireFox :hide

That might be the toolbar. You can show or hide that by going to View -> Show Toolbar (or typing ⌘|). If the toolbar *is* showing, you may have "customized" the location away. Go to View -> Customize Toolbar... and drag the address and search widget into the toolbar.

Smugmug RSS and Leopard screen saver?
not sure if this is the correct thread for this question but here goes...

Just bought my first mac - the 2.2 macbook - and am trying to get my screen saver to work with rss feeds from my smugmug account. I pulled up the rss feed in safari for my favorites gallery and pasted that into the options section of the desktop and screen saver config. I get a message that there are no images to display. I added a second rss feed (recent photos) but still nothing.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    E

    One X in the Taskbar?
I have a PowerBook G4 at work with a fresh install of Leopard on it. I dock X11 to the taskbar from the Applications menu. Every time I start it, a second copy of X shows up in the task bar. The second one has the "active" dot displayed under it.

I tried to dock the second copy of X to the task bar and delete the other one... no luck, it still creates a second copy.

Any way to avoid this duplication? It's only a very minor annoyance, but it didn't happen under Jaguar or Tiger (I think).

Right-click on each one and choose "reveal in finder". Do they point to the same place? My guess would be that they don't. Not sure how to fix it in either case, tho. :)

Have you tried removing the copy that you added manually and retaining the "new" one by right-clicking and choosing "Keep in dock"?
